Men's Wrestling Concludes Preseason with Maroon-Gold Wrestleoffs

ERIE, Pa. – The Gannon University men's wrestling team hosted its annual Maroon-Gold Wrestleoffs on Sunday morning at the Recreation and Wellness Center. The Golden Knights will open the 2024-25 season next Saturday, November 2 competing in the Mount Union Invitational.

Wrestling took place in four weight classes with very tight matches the name of the day. Four wrestlers, including three redshirt freshmen, competed at 125 lbs., with Logan Sallot (Erie, PA/McDowell High School) going 3-0. The transfer from Lock Haven faced redshirt sophomore Hunter Robison (Edinboro, Pa./Saegertown) twice and winning 11-2 and 4-1.

The 141 lb. weight class also featured four wrestlers. Incumbent starter Caleb Chaves (Odenton, Md./Arundel) won both of his matches. Three matches were held at 149 lbs. with Army transfer Kenny Kiser (Meadville, Pa./Saegertown) and graduate student Hayden Butterfield (Erie, Pa./McDowell) winning their lone matches.

Shane Davidson (Almond, N.Y./Wellsville) and Eli Reese (Sarver, Pa./Knoch) were battling at 197 lbs. but Reese was forced to retire due to an injury during the match.
