The No. 7 Gannon women's soccer team extended its win streak to four in a row after defeating non-conference opponent Daemen on Wednesday afternoon.
The Golden Knights improved to 9-0-3 in the season while Daemen dropped to 6-7 respectively, after facing their third nationally ranked opponent in the season.
Gannon came into the contest ranked seventh in the latest United Soccer Coaches Division Top 25, announced earlier this week.
Gannon tallied its ninth shutout of the year thanks to its durable defense and held the Wildcats without a shot.
Goalies
Morgan Sinan (Cranberry Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley) (77:06) and
Ella Wickham (Hillard, Ohio/Hillard Davidson) (12:54) split time in the net for the Golden Knights, both facing zero shots.
The Gannon offensive barrage kept Daemen goalkeeper Becca Schultz busy in the net as she secured 16 saves with 19 on target.
Destinee Robertson (Lacey, Washington/Timberline) netted her first goal of the year, while
June Monasterio (Bilbao, Spain/Claret Askartza) and
Ella Fadale (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport) also paced the Golden Knight offense with one goal apiece.
How it Happened
- The lone goal of the first half came off the foot of Destinee Robertson (Lacey, Washington/Timberline) who shot the ball from 25 yards out to give Gannon the 1-0 lead.
- Gannon held a 14-0 advantage in shots at the half.
- June Monasterio (Bilbao, Spain/Claret Askartza) tallied the Golden Knights second goal at the 61:54 mark off a cross to extend the Gannon lead, 2-0.
- Ella Fadale (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport) scored the third and final goal of the contest off a corner kick from teammate Gabby Boden (Butler, Pa./Butler) to cap off the 3-0 victory.
