Corti, Hyde Score Goals as No. 16 Gannon Wins PSAC Semifinal Rematch with West Chester

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Bautista Corti (Manuel Alberti, Argentina/Adultos 2000) and Rafa Hyde (São José dos Campos, Brazil/) scored goals and Andre Moraes (Sao Bernardo do Campo, Brazil/Colegio Singular) recorded his fourth shutout as the No. 16 Gannon men's soccer team picked up a big road win on Saturday. In a rematch of last year's PSAC semifinal game the Golden Knights handed West Chester a 2-0 defeat.

The matchup of the top teams in each division saw the Golden Knights improve to 7-2-2 overall while West Chester dropped to 7-3-2. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Golden Rams while Gannon has now won three straight matches and is 4-0-2 over its last six contests.

A year ago Gannon came in as the Western Division regular season champion and was hosting the PSAC Final Four. The Golden Rams came into McConnell Family Stadium and handed the Golden Knights a 2-1 defeat.

Gannon will look to make it four wins in a row on Wednesday, October 16 when the Golden Knights host California (Pa.) at 4:00 p.m. at McConnell Family Stadium. That begins a stretch of three straight home games.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Bautista Corti (Manuel Alberti, Argentina/Adultos 2000) opened the scoring for Gannon on a corner kick as the defender scored his first goal of the season. The senior from Argentina corralled a corner kick at the far end of the goal and blasted a left-footed shot into the far left corner of the net for a 1-0 lead 17:40 into the match. Shota Toyama (Kanagawa, Japan/Tama) and Pau Ferrer (Valencia, Spain/ISES Isabel de Villena) were credited with assists.
  • Gannon's lead grew to 2-0 in the 31st minute courtesy of Rafa Hyde (São José dos Campos, Brazil/). After taking a pass from James Pool (Hastings, England/Claverham) the sophomore blasted a long shot from in front of the net over the head of WCU goalkeeper Jaden Howard. Hyde has now scored a goal in three of the last four matches and is now tied for the team lead with six on the season.
BY THE NUMBERS
  • West Chester held a narrow 17-15 advantage in shots, with Gannon leading 11-7 at the half but the Golden Rams outshooting Gannon 10-4 over the final 45 minutes. They also held a 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.
  • Andre Moraes (Sao Bernardo do Campo, Brazil/Colegio Singular) recorded his fourth shutout of the season while finishing with five saves. That's the third time in the last four matches the transfer from CSU Bakersfield has had five saves.
