EDINBORO, Pa. –  The Gannon volleyball team used a balanced attack to claim a solid three-set sweep against Erie County rival Edinboro in a PSAC West match on Friday night at McComb Fieldhouse.

Senior outside hitter
Journey Blevins (Richwood, Ohio/North Union) had 13 kills, and senior right side hitter
Hailey Koch (Littleton, Col./Dakota Ridge) and sophomore outside hitter
Carissa Treser (Sewickley, Pa./North Allegheny) each had 11 kills as Gannon swept Edinboro 3-0 to stay unbeaten in the PSAC West. Gannon leads the Western Division with a 5-0 record.

Matt Darling's Gannon team was much more dominant in this match than the last time the Golden Knights met the Scots at Edinboro Fieldhouse. Late in the 2023 season, Edinboro rallied for a five-set win. On Friday night, though, Gannon led throughout almost the entire match.

How it happened:

On Friday, the first set was tied 19-19 when Gannon took command.
Carissa Treser (Sewickley, Pa./North Allegheny) had a kill and a service ace on back-to-back points to make it 21-19. After Edinboro scored, the Golden Knights tallied the final four points of the set, including a kill by
Lauren Atwell (Mars, Pa./Mars Area), a block by
Ali Sorenson (Tinley Park, Ill./Lincoln Way East) and kill by Blevins that clinched GU's 25-20 win.

In the second set, Gannon surged to an 18-10 lead before Edinboro whittled the lead to 22-18. The Golden Knights outscored the Scots 3-2 the rest of the way as they secured a 25-20 win in the set.

Gannon clinched the victory with a solid 25-18 win in the third set. After an Edinboro timeout, the Scots reeled off three straight points to make it 15-13. Gannon then called a timeout and followed by outscoring Edinboro 10-5 the rest of the way. A kill by Blevins ended the match.

Gannon led Edinboro .230 to .117 in attack percentage and had 46 kills to the Scots' 32.

Junior setter
Bengisu Arslan (Ankara, Turkey/Private Çankaya Doga Anatolian) once again ran the Gannon offense, dishing out 37 assists. She now has 2,498 assists in her career.

Senior libero
Emma Hall (Lowell, Mich./Lowell) led a strong defensive effort for the Knights. She had 16 digs.

Blevins and Treser each had had a double-double as Blevins collected 12 digs and Treser added 10.
Lara Toruner (Istanbul, Turkey/Terakki Foundation) also had 10 digs.

Ali Sorenson (Tinley Park, Ill./Lincoln Way East) had eight total blocks, including three solo block, to pace the Knights.

Erika Lindqvist and Makayla Neelands paced Edinboro with 10 kills apiece.
