Boden Scores Twice as Gannon Posts 4-1 Win at Clarion

Golden Knights have won the last 15 meetings

CLARION, Pa.Gabby Boden (Butler, Pa./Butler) scored a pair of first half goals and Gannon added two more goals in the second half in a 4-1 win at Clarion on Wednesday night. The victory boosted the Golden Knights to 3-2-1 overall and 3-1-0 in PSAC West action. Clarion dropped to 1-5-1 and 1-4-0, respectively. Gannon has now won the last 15 meetings with the Golden Eagles.

Gannon took a 1-0 lead just 6:54 into the match on the first of Boden's two goals, her first of the season. The Golden Knights gathered in a turnover in the midfield and a pass found Brooklyn Respecki (McKean, Pa./General McLane) sprinting down the left sideline. The freshman fed a beautiful cross to Boden, whose shot from in close rolled into the left corner.

The advantage grew to 2-0 less than five minutes at 11:05. This time Boden's long shot from the left win from 40 yards out sailed over Clarion goalkeeper Alex Velez' arms into the upper right corner of the goal.

The score remained that way at the half as Gannon held a 6-1 edge in shots.

Clarion cut the deficit in half in the 60th minute courtesy of Carly Fairchild. Nicole Brown assisted on the goal.

Gannon would score twice in the final 13 minutes to pull away. Logan Niclas found the back of the net for the third time in the last two games at 77:42 to make it 3-1. Taylor Paige, who assisted on each of the last two goals, gave a short pass to Nicklas, who navigated a difficult angle into the near corner.

Leah Bermudez (Milton, Ontario/Jean Vanier Catholic) added an insurance goal in the 87th minute. The standout defender scored her first goal of the season after missing the first four contests with an injury. She headed in a corner kick from Taylor into the right corner of the goal.

Gannon dominated statistically finishing with an 18-2 advantage in shots. That included nine shots on goal to two. The Golden Knights had 11 corner kicks while the Golden Eagles did not have one all night. Morgan Sinan (Cranberry Twp., Pa./Seneca Valley) played all 90 minutes in goal and had one save.

The Golden Knights return to action on Saturday, September 23 with a Homecoming match at McConnell Family Stadium against California (Pa.). the match gets underway at 6:00 p.m.
