Mike Montano First Announced Recruit for Head Coach Jordan Fee

ERIE, Pa. – Gannon University men's basketball coach Jordan Fee has been on the job a month, and after putting together his coaching staff the former Nova Southeastern assistant coach has begun the task of rebuilding the Golden Knights' roster. Today Fee announced the addition of his first recruit with freshman Mike Montano becoming the first official recruit of the Fee Era.

Montano is a 6'7" forward who played this past season for a highly successful Hargrave Military Academy after previously playing high school basketball at Edison High School in Alexandria, Va.

"We're thrilled to welcome Mike to our program," related Fee. "He is a versatile basketball player that will fit in well with the system in a variety of ways.  Mike is also an outstanding student and a quality person."

Montano helped Hargrave post an incredible 44-2 record under head coach Thomas Messinger in 2022-23. The Tigers won the Elite Prep League regular season championship as well as the Elite Prep League Tournament Championship in addition to securing titles in the Fork Union Christmas Tournament and the First Piedmont Corp. Invitational. They would go on to reach the national Sweet 16.

"I chose Gannon University to continue my basketball journey because the coaching staff made me feel like it was the perfect fit," Montano commented. "The Gannon community was so welcoming on my visit, and I realized that this is where I wanted to be. I am very excited to be a Knight!"

Montano averaged 10.7 ppg., 7.1 rpg., 1.4 steals per game and 1.3 blocks per game while shooting 58.7 percent from the floor at Hargrave.

He earned first team All-District honors along with first team All-Region accolades at Edison High School and was named to the District All-Defensive Team. He averaged over 20 ppg. as a senior and 30 points in the playoffs.
