Woodworth Reaches 100 Career Goals as Gannon Defeats Edinboro 20-4

EDINBORO, Pa. McKenna Woodworth (Horseheads, N.Y./Horseheads) scored her 100th career goal and 11 different players scored goals as Gannon made the short journey to Sox Harrison Stadium and handed Edinboro a 20-4 defeat. The Golden Knights snapped three-game losing streak while improving to 2-8 overall and 2-3 in the PSAC West. Edinboro dropped to 2-8 an 0-5, respectively.

Gannon jumped out to a big lead and overcame a weather delay as a strong storm passed through the area late in the first quarter. The Golden Knights led 8-1 at the time of the stoppage and held an 11-1 lead after 15 minutes. The 20 goals were a season-high and the most since a 23-0 win over Edinboro last year.

Woodworth joined the 100-goal club early in the match as the junior scored the first two goals of the game. The first came at the 12:23 mark on a free position goal, and her 100th was less than a minute later at 11:39, assisted by Caroline Stevens (Syracuse, N.Y./Liverpool). She would add a fourth-period goal to give her 101 for her career.

Edinboro scored at the 9:14 mark to cut the lead to 2-1, but Gannon ran off the next nine goals as the game had a running clock late in the first quarter. Grace Cunningham (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas) accounted for three of the nine goals.

Cunningham would end up leading the Golden Knights with four goals, while Stevens had three goals and two assists and Woodworth finished with three goals and an assist. Freshmen Charlie Hunter (Boston, N.Y./Hamburg) and Alyssa Lerch (Coraopolis, Pa./Moon Area) scored two goals apiece.

Haleigh Manning (Milton, Ga./Cambridge) played the first three periods in goal and finished with six saves while allowing three goals. Riley Finnegan (Oviedo, Fla./Oviedo) had three saves and allowed a goal in the final period.

Gannon held a 34-20 advantage in shots and converted on 13-of-13 clear attempts. The Golden Knights had 16 draw controls to nine for the Fighting Scots. Edinboro was guilty of 13 turnovers while Gannon had 10.

The Golden Knights continue a stretch of three straight games on the road on Wednesday, April 5 at Mercyhurst.
