Ryan Hits Two Home Runs, Fox One as Gannon Ends Spring Trip with Loss to Ashland

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Gannon softball team wrapped up its annual spring trip to Florida on Saturday morning with a 7-3 loss to Ashland. The setback left the Golden Knights at 1-11 as they head back north. The next time they take the diamond will be Tuesday, March 21 hosting Edinboro as PSAC West action begins.

The Golden Knights and Eagles battled on even terms for five-plus innings with the score tied at 2-2 before Ashland broke the game open with a five-run bottom of the sixth inning. All of the runs scored with two outs, with two unearned. A pair of run-scoring double and a two-run triple were the big blows.

Gannon was outhit 11-7 but the Golden Knights hit three balls that left the ballpark. Jules Ryan (Collegeville, Pa./Spring Ford) and Ashley Fox (Cowansville, Pa./Karns City) hit back-to-back home runs in the top of the third inning as Gannon took a brief 2-1 lead. Ryan added a second home run in the top of the seventh to account for Gannon's final run. They were the first home runs of the season for the duo, and for Fox, a freshman, her first career long ball.

Ryan ended the game going 3-for-4 while Fox was 2-for-3. Abbey Girman (Bridgeville, Pa./South Fayette) and Andrea Watson (Venus, Pa./Cranberry Area) added singles for the Golden Knights.
