Bielanin Drives in Three But D'Youville Rallies to Beat Gannon

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y.Jared Bielanin (Erie, Pa./McDowell) continued his hot hitting but D'Youville (7-8) used a six-run ninth inning to hand Gannon a 7-4 loss on Tuesday afternoon. The nine-inning non-conference game was played at Bobo Field on the campus of Niagara University.

The Golden Knights were playing for the first time since returning from Florida on March 4. The two teams had been scheduled to play a doubleheader last week but weather forced a postponement.

Gannon (5-8) jumped out to a 4-0 lead, scoring twice in the third and two more times in the fifth. Bielanin was involved both times. The junior hits a two-run single to right in the third to drive in Brendan Koroly (Mars, Pa./Pittsburgh Central Catholic), who had doubled, and Ian Hess (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan), who reached on a single.

In the fifth Hess led off the inning with a single. One out later Bielanin tripled to right to drive in Hess. He scored on Cam Vozel's double to right.

In the meantime Dylan Crowley (Eden, N.Y./Hamburg) was throwing a gem. The transfer from George Mason shut out the Saints for five innings before tiring in the sixth and allowing a run. The lefthander went 5.1 innings, allowing four hits and a walk while striking out five.

Evan Harrison (Mississauga, Ontario/St. Aloysius Gonzaga S.S.) came in and threw 1.2 scoreless innings, ands Carson Whiteman (Kane, Pa./Kane Area) recorded a pair of strikeouts in a scoreless eighth inning.

Unfortunately the wheels fell off for the Golden Knights in the bottom of the ninth. A pair of hit batters, a walk and a pair of singles led to a sacrifice fly by Alec Boucher to tie the game at 4-4. Craig Oliver then stepped to the plate and hit a game-winning three-run homer to left. It was the second time this year the Golden Knights lost on a walk off home run.

Bielanin finished the day 2-for-3 at the plate with 3 RBIs. Hess went 3-for-5 as Gannon totaled eight hits.

Gannon begins PSAC West action on Friday, March 24 hosting Pitt-Johnstown in a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m. The two teams are scheduled to play a doubleheader in Johnstown the next day.
