Gannon women's basketball team sees winning streak come to an end in loss to Seton Hill

Golden Knights' streak ends at 12 games, but they remain in first place in PSAC West,

ERIE, Pa. – The Gannon University women's basketball team saw three winning streaks end on Wednesday night in an 87-72 loss to Seton Hill at Highmark Events Center.

The loss ended the No. 22-ranked Golden Knights' 12-game overall winning streak, the GU women's program's longest streak since 2013-14. Gannon dropped to 18-3 overall and 10-3 in the PSAC West.

Gannon also lost for the first time at home this season after winning their first 10 games at the Highmark Events Center.

The Knights also saw their 10-game winning streak in the PSAC West come to a halt, but the Golden Knights remained alone in first place because second-place Pitt-Johnstown lost to Edinboro on Wednesday.

Pitt-Johnstown and Edinboro are tied for second place in the Western Division at 9-4. The Fighting Scots will visit the Highmark Events Center to take on Gannon on Saturday at 1 p.m.

Senior forward Sam Pirosko scored a game-high 22 points and moved into 14th place on Gannon's career scoring list with 1,243 points. She moved past Casey England (1224 points, 2004-07) on Wednesday.

Emma Wright (Fairview, Pa./Talawanda) added 21 points for Gannon.

Seton Hill shot 50 percent from the field during the game and, in an interesting statistical anomaly, shot 50 percent in each of the fourth quarters. The Griffins shot 7-of-14, 7-of-14, 7-of-14, and 6-of-12, respectively in the four quarters to finish 27-of-54. Gannon shot 41.5 percent from the field.

SHU shot a red-shot 90 percent from the foul line (27-of-30) for the game, which was crucial as the Griffins protected their lead throughout the second half.

Seton Hill led 23-16 after one quarter and 44-31 at halftime. The lead grew as large as 16 points.

Gannon trimmed the advantage to seven points – 71-64 – on a 3-point play by Pirosko with 4:42 remaining, but the Knights never drew closer.
