Kent Notches Career-High 26 Points in Loss to Seton Hill

ERIE, Pa. – Zach Kent and Demetrius Mims combined for 43 points but Gannon was unable to slow down a hot-shooting Seton Hill team as the Golden Knights suffered an 89-74 loss to a much-improved Griffins team. Gannon is now 1-16 and 1-12 in the PSAC West while a Seton Hill team that won just three games last year improved to 12-7 and 7-6, respectively.

Kent, a 6'10" redshirt senior who transferred to Gannon this year after playing at Delaware State, scored a career-high 26 points. He made 11-of-19 field goals, most coming on soft mid-range jumpers, along with 4-of-5 free throws. The 26 points is a high for a Golden Knight this season.

Mims chipped in with 17 points, all but two in the second half, after sitting out the final 14 minutes of the first half due to foul trouble. A 6'6" redshirt junior, Mims made 8-of-16 field goal attempts and has now scored in double figures in ten straight games. The duo also led Gannon in rebounding, pulling down seven apiece.

Freshman point guards Berkay Yilmaz and Ronny Raphael each handed out six assists as the Gannon offense recorded a season-high 20 assists.

Both teams enjoyed great shooting success. Gannon finished the night at 52.4 percent (33-of-63), the second time this year shot better than 50 percent from the floor. However, Seton Hill hovered around the 60 percent mark for much of the evening before cooling off late and finishing at 52.5 percent (32-of-61).

However, the Griffins five different players knock down 3-pointers as they went 14-of-32 from beyond the arc compared to a 3-for-13 figure for the Golden Knights. Seton Hill was 11-of-18 from the charity stripe while Gannon was 5-of-10. Gannon's 74 points tied the season-high for points, accomplished two other times prior to Wednesday night.

After a tough first half which saw the Golden Knights turn the ball over 12 times while trailing 42-28 at intermission, they took much better care of the ball in the final 20 minutes and ended the night with 16 turnovers. Seton Hill committed 13. Each team finished with 32 rebounds.

Seton Hill had three players in double figures, led by Sean Dillon's 24 points. Six-foot-nine Jimmy Moon added 20 points. Moon made 6-of-10 3-pointers while Dillon went 3-for-5 from beyond the arc along with making 9-of-10 free throws. Drew Green added 11 points while Samuel Tabe led all rebounders with 10.

As has been the case all year long, the young Golden Knights refused to go away and cut a 24-point deficit down to ten late in the game. Seton Hill still led by 20 points at 79-59 with 6:21 left to play. Over the next five minutes Gannon outscored the Griffins 15-5 to pull to within 84-74 with 1:30 left to play. Kent scored six points in the run and Cenker Evran added four. Unfortunately, Seton Hill would score the final five points.

Gannon will celebrate Hall of Fame Day on Saturday, January 28 hosting local rival Edinboro. The game will be the fourth for the Golden Knights in eight days. Tipoff at the Highmark Events Center is 3:00 p.m.
