HILLSDALE, MI -- The Gannon women's volleyball team played some stiff competition over a three-day period in Hillsdale College's Charger Invitational. Despite returning to Erie with a 1-3 record, the Golden Knights are hoping that something positive will come out of the road trip.
Gannon, which entered the week ranked No. 17 in NCAA Division II, lost to No. 14 Colorado School of Mines 3-1 in its lone match on Saturday.
"This was a tough match for us, as we really couldn't get much going on offense. Without points, you can't win," Gannon coach
Matt Darling said.Â
Gannon, which opened the season with three straight home wins during the previous weekend, dropped to 4-3 for the season.
"Overall, this weekend was probably good for us," Darling said. "We played four great teams and hopefully saw from them some things that we can try to do later in the year.'ve said all along that we are going to be a good team, but it's not likely to be during September. Our goal is to be relevant in November, and hopefully this weekend helped us get there."
After losing the first set 25-21, the Golden Knights regrouped to win the second set 25-20. However, the Orediggers closed the match with 25-17 and 25-21 wins in the next two sets.
