ERIE, Pa. – The No. 6-ranked Gannon Acrobatics & Tumbling team used big advantages in the final three events to pull away with a 267.745-259.220 victory over eighth-ranked Fairmont State on Friday evening at the Highmark Events Center in Erie. The win was Gannon's ninth in a row and second over a ranked team this season.
Compulsory Event
Gannon scored a meet-high 9.90 in the compulsory pyramid and added a 9.80 in the compulsory toss to grab and early 38.10-36.85 advantage following the first event of the evening. Gannon also scored a 9.40 in the compulsory acro and a 9.0 in the compulsory tumbling to outscore the Falcons in each of the four heats.
Acro Event
Fairmont State won its only event of the evening in acro, outscoring the Knights in two of the three heats and winning the event by a narrow 27.90 to 27.80 margin. Gannon recorded the highest score in the event with a 9.65 in the five-element acro heat.
Pyramid Event
To wrap up the first half, Gannon recorded a trio of scores that eclipsed 9.70 to win the event by a 29.45 to 28.80 margin. Gannon matched its meet-high with a 9.90 in the synchronized pyramid and also put up a 9.85 in the inversion pyramid.
Toss Event
Gannon took control of the meet in the second half, starting with a 28.55-26.00 advantage in the toss event. The Knights recorded an event-high 9.75 in the open toss and added a 9.60 in the 450 salto toss. Gannon outscored Fairmont in each of the toss heats as the Falcons posted three scores below 9.0 in the event.
Tumbling Event
In the tumbling event, Gannon outscored Fairmont State in five of the six heats, including a 9.75 by
Caitlyn Crawford (Reston, Va./South Lakes) in the open pass and a 9.625 by
Ali Price (New Paris, Pa./Chestnut Ridge) in the six-element pass.
Michaelah Lanza (Middletown, N.J./Middletown North) also posted an impressive 9.00 out of 9.55 in the aerial pass.
Team Event
The Knights put a bow on their victory with nearly a two-point advantage (89.32-87.42) in team event, making the final score 267.745-259.220.
Up Next
Gannon will now travel out west for three meets during spring break. The Knights will kick off the road trip with a tri-meet at second-ranked Azusa Pacific on Tuesday, March 1. Gannon will also competed against No. 5 Hawaii Pacific during the tri-meet in California.
Notes: During the meet, Gannon scored season-highs in 15 of 19 heats, including 10 scores of 9.50 or higher.
