SLIPPERY ROCK, PA -- The Gannon University and Slippery Rock University women's soccer teams were even in almost every facet of the game on Wednesday afternoon as they played to a 0-0 tie at James Egli Field.
The Golden Knights moved to 7-2-3 overall and 6-1-3 in the PSAC West. They entered the game tied for first place with Mercyhurst in the Western Division and
remained in a tie after Edinboro tied Mercyhurst 0-0 later Wednesday evening.Â
Both Gannon and SRU had scoring chances in each half, but both defenses and goalies rose to the occasion each time to stop the scoring threats.
The Golden Knights had a slight 12-11 edge in shots, but both teams had five shots on goal. Each team had 11 fouls and one yellow card.
Gannon's
Kennedy Solymosi (Eastlake, Ohio/Lake Catholic) made five saves to get the shutout in goal. Goalie Emma Yoder made five saves for SRU.
Sarah Fails (Girard, Pa./Villa Maria) led Gannon with three shots, but none was on goal.
Sammie Dales (Conneautville, Pa./Homeschool) had a team-high two shots on goal for the Golden Knights.
Slippery Rock dropped to 4-2-6 and 3-2-5.
Gannon will return to the pitch on Saturday afternoon when it visits Clarion in a PSAC West matchup.
