Gannon women's soccer team closes regular season with victory on Senior Night

Golden Knights beat Pitt-Johnstown 4-1 on Senior Night, prepare to host Seton Hill on Tuesday in PSAC quarterfinals

With first place already locked up and the No. 1 seed for the playoffs secured, the Gannon women's soccer team looked to finish its regular season on a winning note.

Coach Colin Petersen gave substantial playing time to many Golden Knights as they claimed a 4-1 victory over Pitt-Johnstown on Saturday night at McConnell Family Stadium. The game was a Senior Day celebration to go along with a regular-season finale.

Six seniors were honored during a pregame ceremony: Emilie Hilliard (Phoenix, N.Y./John C. Birdlebough), Kennedy Solymosi (Eastlake, Ohio/Lake Catholic), Sarah Fails (Girard, Pa./Villa Maria), Leah Bermudez (Milton, Ontario/Jean Vanier Catholic), Sofia Alvarez (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico/Academia Maria Reina), and Maria Camacho (Bogota, Colombia/Gimnasio Los Pinos).

On Senior Night, two freshmen and a sophomore combined to score all four goals for the Knights, signaling that future could be bright for Gannon. Freshman Holly Gray (Gold Coast, Australia) scored a pair of goals, while freshman Ella Fadale (Brockport, N.Y./Brockport) and sophomore Jamie Seneca (Plum, Pa./Plum) each scored once.

Sammie Dales (Conneautville, Pa./Homeschool) picked up two assists, while Fails had one assist. Fails moved her season point total to 25 with the assist. She entered the evening leading the PSAC in goals (10) and points (25). Fails had numerous impressive runs at the goal on Saturday but could not find the net.

Gannon clinched first place in the PSAC West with a victory over Mercyhurst on Wednesday. Saturday's win gave the Knights an overall regular-season record of 12-2-4, and an 11-1-4 mark in the PSAC West with 37 standings points.

Gannon will host No. 4 seed Seton Hill in a PSAC Tournament quarterfinal on Tuesday at 4 p.m. (The original time was changed.) Seton Hill closed the regular season at 8-3-7 overall and 6-3-7 in the conference. Gannon and Seton Hill tied twice during the regular season.

If the Golden Knights were to win Tuesday's game, they would then host the Final Four and PSAC Championship Game next weekend at McConnell Family Stadium.
