Gannon gets 2nd volleyball win of weekend with 4-set victory at Pitt-Johnstown

Senior Maggie Greenfield has big match as Golden Knights remain in 2nd place in PSAC West

JOHNSTOWN, PA – Senior middle blocker Maggie Greenfield (Woodstock, Ontario/Woodstock Collegiate Institute) helped the Gannon University volleyball team remain solidly in second place in the PSAC West and on course to earn a playoff berth.

Greenfield had team highs of 13 kills, 15.5 points, and 4 total blocks as Gannon beat Pitt-Johnstown 25-15, 15-25, 25-23, 25-18 at the UPJ Sports Center. She had an outstanding hitting percentage of .522.

The Golden Knights improved to 15-5 on the season and 9-1 in the PSAC West as they remained one match behind first-place Clarion (10-0).

Sophomore right side Hailey Koch (Littleton, Col./Dakota Ridge) and sophomore outside hitter Sam Deinek (South Lyon, Mich./South Lyon East) each added nine kills. Koch also had three total blocks.

Gannon was able to overcome the strong play of UPJ outside hitter Lualis Alvarado, who piled up 23 kills.

"We're feeling really happy about getting a tough road win against a team that played inspired volleyball for most of the day," Gannon coach Matt Darling said. "Maggie and Hailey came up big for us today."

Gannon received 32 assists from freshman setter Bengisu Arslan (Ankara, Turkey) and 28 digs from sophomore libero Emma Hall (Lowell, Mich./Lowell).

The Golden Knights will visit Daemen on Tuesday for a non-conference match in New York. Gannon will then host a pair of Erie County rivals, Mercyhurst on Friday at 7 p.m. and Edinboro on Saturday at 2 p.m.
