CALIFORNIA, Pa. – After a trio of scoreless outings and a pair of draws, the Gannon University women's soccer team found the back of the net twice in a 2-0 shutout win against California University of Pennsylvania on Wednesday evening at the Phillipsburg Complex.
Freshman
Gabby Boden (Butler, Pa./Butler) scored just over a minute into the game on a sliding kick that was set up on a cross from
Sarah Fails (Girard, Pa./Villa Maria). Fails made it a two-goal advantage for the Golden Knights in the 55th minute when she scored from the right side of the box on a pass from
Laurel Prokopchak (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek).
Boden and Fails both found the back of the net for the first time this season in the win.
Gannon controlled the game in the offensive end, holding a 16-2 advantage in total shots, including a 10-1 margin in shots on goals. The Golden Knights also held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Taylor Lewis (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek) provided three on-target scoring opportunities for Gannon while
Kayla Bevacqua (Welland, Ontario/Notre Dame) and Fails both tallied a pair of shots on goal in the win.
Jordan August (Morgantown, W. Va./Morgantown) made her second start of the season as Gannon's goalkeeper and recorded one save to keep a clean sheet intact. It was her first victory and shutout of the season in the GU goal. As a team, Gannon's defense has allowed just one goal in the last four games, including three-consecutive shutouts.
