HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After a scoreless first inning, IUP looked to take an early lead as Haleigh Zimmer walked before nearly coming around to score on a single through the right side but was thrown out at home by Lindsey Schmidt to remain scoreless.
  • Lea Coffman (Lower Burrell, Pa./Burrell) put the Golden Knights on the board as the sophomore hit into left field to score pinch runner Olivia Evans (Horseheads, New York/Horeseheads Senior High) from third to lead 1-0.
  • The Golden Knights took control of the game in the fourth with seven runs on three hits.  Jules Ryan (Collegeville, Pa./Spring Ford) drove in two runs with a single down the left field line before advancing to third on a wild pitch.  Two consecutive walks brought Nicole Bush (Painesville, Ohio/Lake Catholic) to the plate.  Bush grounded out to second to score Ryan to extend the Knights lead, 4-0.  Gannon doubled their lead with the help of two hits including a RBI double into left center by Kristina DeMatteis (Boyers, Pa./Moniteau).
  • IUP looked to end the shutout in the fifth after landing runners on second and third but a grounder to second would secure the run-rule 8-0 victory.

GAME NOTES
  • As a team, Gannon collected seven RBI as five Golden Knights registered a hit against the Crimson Hawks led by Ryan with two RBI.
  • Kennedy DeMatteis (Boyers, Pa./Moniteau) (10-7) was rewarded the victory on the mound as the right-handed pitcher recorded her fourth shutout of the season allowing six hits with five walks and four strikeouts.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon would take an early 1-0 lead in the first after taking an advantage of a throwing error at the plate to score Megan Dietrick (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) from third.
  • The Crimson Hawks would even the score with a single into right by Ashley Renzi before IUP took their first lead of the day after a run was walked in.  Two more runs would cross the plate for IUP to lead 4-1 in the fourth.
  • Another lead change put the Knights back on top as Maria Taliani (Cheswick, Pa./Deer Lakes) led off with a solo homerun to bring the game within two before Lyndsey Lakatos (Allison Park, Pa./Shaler Area) sent her own shot deep and over to even the score at four.  With two outs, Lindsey Schmidt became the hero of the game as the freshman smoked a 2-1 pitch into center field to get the go ahead lead.

GAME NOTES
  • Gannon record five hits with four RBI led by Taliani who went 2-for-4 at the plate while Lakatos tallied two RBI.
  • Taliani now has 30 career home runs and stands second on the Knights leader board.  She is now just two homers away from tying the current record holder Kaity Stocker (Tipp City, Ohio/Tippecanoe) who broke the record against Slippery Rock on April 6.
  • Game two marks the fifth time this season where the Knights totaled three homeruns in a single game.
  • Kennedy DeMatteis (Boyers, Pa./Moniteau) received the start in the circle allowing four runs (four earned) on four hits through 3.2 innings while Rebecca Tatone (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) (8-2) completed the game with three hits to earn the victory.
