HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Mercyhurst scored early and often taking a 5-0 lead in the first half before Libby Tirak (Erie, Pa./Villia Maria) ended the run opening the third as she beat the goalie after connecting with a pass from Campbell Ruh (Walnut, Calif./Lutheran High School of Orange County).
  • The Lakers extended their lead with two goals but was responded with a shot from five-meters out by Nicole Wiemken (Napoleon, Ohio/Napoleon) to find the back of the net after Tirak drew the penalty.  Following a Laker turnover, Mary Trese Squeglia (Erie, Pa./) found Tirak to complete the shot to make it 7-3 at the end of the quarter.
  • Gannon brought the game within three with two-consecutive goals by Wiemken before the two squads went back-and-forth in the final six minutes.  The Golden Knights would fight to the final moments of the game as Wiemken completed a pass from Ruh after drawing the exclusion.
