  • The Short Story: No. 12/20 Gannon outscored Mercyhurst, 24-14, in the fourth quarter to earn the 73-60 win over the Lakers in the Porreco Pride of Erie Games on Saturday afternoon at Hammermill Center. Delaney Dogan (West Middlesex, Pa./West Middlesex) tallied her second double-double of the season with 17 points and 10 rebounds to win the game changer award.
GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Emma Wright (Erie, Pa./Talawanda) got things going for the Knights draining a triple for the early 3-0 lead. The Lakers responded with five straight points to steal their first edge of the contest, 5-3. Mercyhurst continued to ride momentum opening up a 18-10 lead with 2:02 to play in the frame. Gannon closed the quarter with six straight points including a buzzer beater from Emily Poling (Defiance, Ohio/Defiance) to pull within two, 18-16.
  • Gannon started the second frame with a 7-2 run to regain the lead, 23-20, after Sam Pirosko (Eastlake, Ohio/Eastlake North) got a layup to drop. Mercyhurst answered with five straight points of their own to capture the edge, 25-23, by the 5:35 mark. Gannon led at the intermission, 32-28, after Faith Williams (Grafton, Ohio/Elyria Catholic) beat the buzzer from the corner. Mitchell paced the Knights at the break with 10 points on 3-of-4 shooting from three.
  • Both teams exchanged possessions in the third frame as Gannon slowly built a five-point edge, 40-35, after Pirosko netted a layup. Emily Shopene answered for the Lakers knocking down a triple, 43-42, with 2:28 to play in the frame. Gannon then closed the quarter with four straight points to steal the lead, 49-46.
  • The Knights came alive opening the fourth quarter with an 11-0 run featuring six points from Dogan and five from Poling to build a 60-46 edge with 5:50 remaining. The Lakers made one final comeback attempt after Jade Boyd delivered a layup, 65-54, with 2:34 to play. Gannon went on to close out the remaining time to extend its win streak to nine games with the 73-60 win.
GAME NOTES
  • With the win, Gannon extended its win streak to nine games and improved to 13-1 overall. It also marked the Knights' sixth straight win over the Lakers to retain the Porreco Cup.
  • Gannon shot 47.3 percent from the field (26-55) and 40.9 percent from three (9-22).
  • The Knights collected 35 rebounds, including 24 on the defensive end.
  • Dogan registered her second double-double of the season with a career-high 17 points and 10 rebounds. She also added in two assists and two steals.
  • Pirosko notched her second straight double-double and second of her career with 11 points and 10 rebounds. She also registered two assists and one steal.
  • Wright matched a career-high 17 points on 3-of-4 shooting from downtown and 4-of-4 from the free throw line. She added seven rebounds, three assists, one block and one steal to her stat line.
  • Mitchell rounded out the top performers with 10 points to go along with three assists, three rebounds, one block and one steal.
