  • The Short Story: Braden Olsen (West Linn, Ore./West Linn) tallied a team-high 25 points and Chris Clancy (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's Boys) notched his first career double-double to guide Gannon past IUP, 80-75, on Thursday night at Hammermill Center.
GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER HOW IT HAPPENED
  • IUP, who was playing in their first game of the season, grabbed the early edge after Tommy Demogerontas drained a layup, 7-4. Gannon stole its first lead of the night after Robertas Jonaitis (Pakruojis, Lithuania/Greater Beckley Christian School) hit a free throw, 8-7, at the 13:31 mark. Both teams then struggled to connect on a shot until Ike Herster (Sharon, Pa./Kennedy Catholic) hit on a deep triple to open up an 11-7 edge for the Knights.
  • The Crimson Hawks came alive with nine straight points to regain the lead, 16-11. The Knights battled back with an 8-0 run of their own to capture the edge, 19-16, after Sean Colosimo (Wexford, Pa./Pine-Richland) connected on a triple. However, Gannon trailed at the intermission, 33-32. Clancy paced the Knights with 12 points on 4-of-4 shooting from downtown. He also added in eight rebounds.
  • Olsen heated up in the second half with seven straight points to help Gannon create a 44-37 edge with 16:20 play. IUP quickly rattled off five straight points to pull back within two, 44-42. The Crimson Hawks continued to push back stealing the edge, 47-46, after Bryce Radford netted a triple.
  • The two teams traded possessions to lock the score up at 62-62 with 5:45 to play. Gannon then went on a clutch 5-0 run to open up 67-62 advantage after Olsen drained a jumper. IUP made one last surge after Armoni Walker connected on a triple and free throw, 75-73, with 1:14 to play. The Knights then secured the 80-75 win shooting 7-of-7 from the free throw line over the final 1:13.
GAME NOTES
  • With the win, Gannon improves to 10-3 on the season. It also marks the Knights' first win over the Crimson Hawks since the 2017-18 season.
  • Gannon shot 45.3 percent from the field (24-53) and 57.9 percent from three (11-19).
  • The Knights matched a season-best 21 free throws made on 27 attempts.
  • The contest featured 15 lead changes.
  • Gannon grabbed 39 total rebounds, including 30 on the defensive end.
  • Olsen paced the Knights with his second straight 20-point game with a career-best 25 points. He shot 8-of-17 from the field and 6-of-6 from the free throw line. Olsen also added in a team-high five assists with three rebounds.
  • Clancy registered his first career double-double with 21 points and a career-best 11 rebounds. He shot 6-of-9 from the field and 4-of-4 from the free throw line. It marked his second 20-point game this season and 10th double digit scoring performance this season.
  • Herster rounded out the top performers netting 11 points to go along with five rebounds, two assists and one steal.
