KEY SEQUENCE
  • Gannon pulled to within one score early in the second quarter, in the middle of holding Tiffin to four straight punts, but the host Dragons scored a pair of touchdowns in the final 62 seconds of the half to increase their margin.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Tiffin scored on the opening drive of the game, going 75 yards to take the lead. Gannon was driving, getting into Tiffin territory with passes of 15 yards to Melvin Blanks (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) and 12 yards to Alex Whittaker (Medina, Ohio/Medina), but an interception ended that drive, and the Dragons took advantage of a short field to go up 14-0.
  • The Golden Knight defense buckled down for a long stretch, forcing two straight drive to go backwards then another punt before the offense took over. A 20-yard burst from Michiah Burton (Columbus, Ohio/New Albany HS) set Gannon up just outside the red zone, and Nick Demchuk (North Royalton, Ohio/Benedictine) hit Whittaker for the final 23 yards to make it 14-7 with 12:58 left in the second.
  • Gannon forced two more punts out of Tiffin, but wasn't able to get much going itself. Tiffin was finally able to move the ball late in the second quarter, and managed to work its way down the field for a score with just 1:02 to go before the break. The Dragons got the ball back with 27 seconds left, and managed to cross the goal line again to make it 28-7 at the half.
  • The Knights took up over six minutes on its first drive of the third quarter, but on its 14th play, the Tiffin defense held up for a fourth-down stop. The hosts took advantage, hitting a big play to set up its first score of the second half.
  • A steady dose of the run got Gannon into Tiffin territory one more time late in the third quarter and into the fourth, but the Knights were forced to punt, and the Dragons ate up clock the rest of the way.

GAME NOTES
  • Burton ran for 95 yards on 28 carries to pace the Golden Knight offense, setting early career-highs in both categories.
  • Whittaker led the Knights with three catches and 46 receiving yards, the first catches, yards and touchdown of the sophomore's collegiate career.
  • Nicholas White (Randallstown, Md./Milford Mill Academy), who registered the only Gannon sack in last week's season opener, added two on Saturday to give him three on the season. All three of his tackles were behind the line of scrimmage, as he added an assisted tackle for loss in addition to his sacks.
  • Noah Thompson (Marion, Ohio/Marion Harding) led the defense with six tackles, all solo. He also added a sack to give Gannon three on the day.
