BOUT-BY-BOUT RESULTS
125
  • Lenox kicked things off with a breezy 10-0 major in the semifinals, then had to battle to a 4-0 victory over Pitt-Johnstown's Matt Siszka in the final, using a tough ride to conclude a day where he didn't give up a point.

133
  • Dunlop got through his semifinal with a 9-3 win, then was locked into a close one with UPJ's Mason Myers in the final before opening up for a 7-2 victory and the title.

141
  • Hertel held a tight lead in his semifinal before winning by injury default. His championship bout was even closer, but he slipped by UPJ's Caleb Morris in a tiebreaker.

149
  • Means picked up a second-period fall in his quarterfinal, then eased to an 8-3 win in the semis. In the final, he ran into Division I transfer Lukas Martin of Fairmont State, who eked out a 6-3 win. In the true second bout, Pitt-Johnstown's Jacob Ealy grabbed a 3-2 win in a tight matchup.

157
  • Young was on the mat the least of any Gannon wrestler, picking up two falls in less than two minutes. His pin in the final came at the 1:57 mark over UPJ's Nate Smith to cap a hectic match.

165
  • Farenchak pinned his way into the semifinals, where he earned a 5-3 decision to reach the final. There he met defending region champ JoJo Gonzalez of American International, who caught Farenchak for the fall to cap a matchup that went back and forth at a frenetic pace. In the true second match, he led 12-2 before winning by injury default.

174
  • Day topped Mercyhurst's Trevor Johnson with a takedown in sudden victory in the semifinals, then went right after two-time All-American Brock Biddle of Pitt-Johnstown in the final. Day went for a couple of tosses and kept Biddle on his toes early, but fell by major decision. He capped his day with another overtime victory, topping Fairmont's Cade Moisey 8-6 in sudden victory.

184
  • Page continued his torrid pace of the last month, ripping off back-to-back technical falls in the quarters and semis. Once in the final, he kept scoring, using a big first period to roll to a 10-3 victory over Mercyhurst's Trever Begin.

197
  • Leise made quick work of his opponent with a 58-second pin in the quarters, then followed that up with a 10-0 major in the semis. In the final, things slowed down against Mercyhurst's Luke McGonigal, who kept Leise at bay late to squeak out a 4-2 decision.

285
  • Nixon got the only takedown of the bout to secure a 4-2 win in his semifinal. In the title bout against Pitt-Johnstown's Allan Beattie, there would be no takedown in a match that went a full 11 minutes. Nixon rode out the heavier Beattie in the first tiebreaker, then did just enough to edge him in riding time in the second overtime to grab the win.

TEAM NOTES
  • Gannon won its first 17 bouts of the day and led the team race wire-to-wire to secure the first regional championship in the program's history.
  • The Golden Knights' six individual champions is a new program best, increasing the program's total number of region champs by 25 percent, from 24 to 30.
  • All six regional champs — Lenox, Dunlop, Hertel, Young, Page and Nixon — received auto-bids to the 2021 NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships in two weeks. With the field at nationals reduced for this year only, the allocation procedure changed. Five more wrestlers from the region will receive at-large bids to the national tournament, and those names will be released by the NCAA on Monday. (UPDATE: Farenchak and Leise each earned at-large bids)
  • Head coach Don Henry was named the Super Region Coach of the Year. It's the fifth time in his career that Henry has earned that honor.
  • Dunlop and Nixon will each be making their third trip to nationals. Hertel and Young are now two-time qualifiers, while Page and Lenox are making their first trip.
  • Gannon went 22-5 overall on the day, including five pins, two tech falls, two majors, and a perfect 4-0 mark in bouts that went to overtime.

UP NEXT
  • The at-large qualifiers will be announced with a press release on NCAA.com Monday.
  • Gannon's six qualifiers — and possibly more — will compete at the NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships March 12-13 in St. Louis.
