CLARION, Pa. – Gannon saw its six-match winning streak end on Friday evening as the Golden Knights dropped a 3-0 final (25-13, 25-20, 25-20) at Clarion in PSAC West action inside the Tippin Gymnasium.
The loss drops Gannon's record to 21-5 overall and 8-3 in the PSAC West. Clarion improves to 16-7 overall and 8-3 in the league.
Lauren Sampson (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) led Gannon in the match with 12 kills and two blocks assists.
Ashley McClung (Charleston, W.Va./George Washington) also hit double-digits with 10 kills and two blocks.
Maggie Greenfield (Woodstock, Ontario/Woodstock Collegiate Institute) recorded a team-high three blocks assists for Gannon.
Ashley Beyers (Lanark, Ill./Eastland) finished the evening with a double-double, notching 24 assists and 10 digs.
Defensively, Gannon got 10 digs from
Sam Deinek (South Lyon, Mich./South Lyon East), nine from
Emma Hall (Lowell, Mich./Lowell) and seven from
Kenzie Lasher (Ford City, Pa./Armstrong).
Gannon struggled on the attack, totaling just 27 kills and racking up 20 errors in the setback. Clarion also held a 9-6 advantage in blocks and a 4-1 edge in service aces.
The Golden Eagles finished the match with a .250 hitting percentage, wrapping up the evening with 43 kills compared to just 15 attack errors. Cassidy Snider finished the evening with 10 kills and 10 digs. Alyson Peters tallied nine kills in the win, while Lauren Aichinger chipped in eight kills and a match-high five blocks. London Fuller passed out 34 assists.
Gannon will wrap up this weekend's play with a 1 p.m. match at Pitt-Johnstown on Saturday afternoon.
