BRACKET BREAKDOWN
  • 116: Vega will start her day in one of six prelims at 116, and a win would push her right into a tough quarter of the bracket. Waiting in the round of 16 is Tiffin's Savannah Stacks, who placed fifth at the WCWA championships last month, and a win there would likely put Vega up against No. 2-ranked Felicity Taylor of McKendree in the quarters. Three All-Americans from WCWAs are in the bracket.
  • 130: Dockweiler will start out against the No. 3-ranked 123-pounder in McKendree's Alexia Ward, but then wouldn't have to face a ranked opponent until possibly going up against No. 4 Alyssa Aceval of King in the quarterfinals. The round of 16 could see a rematch against Presbyterian's Lillian Humphries, who knocked Dockweiler out of the bracket at WCWAs.
  • 136: Both Floor and Camarillo get byes into the round of 16, where Camarillo will get a test right away from No. 3 Dalia Garibay of Colorado Mesa. Floor goes up against Presbyterian's Michiko Yoshimitsu in her first match, then could face top-ranked Emma Bruntil of McKendree. There's actually two No. 1 wrestlers in the 136 bracket, as the top-ranked 130-pounder in Simon Fraser's Lauren Mason is also going at 136.
  • 143: Garcia will get a stiff challenge in her prelim bout, taking on WCWA champion and No. 6-ranked Morgan Norris of Presbyterian in a rematch from the first day of the 2019-20 season at Ferrum. A win there would match her up with Adrian's No. 8 MacKenzie Matta in the round of 16, then No. 4 Sara Brinkac of Simon Fraser in the quarterfinals.
  • 155: Helm will be looking for a second All-America tag this year, and will kick off that journey against Adrian's Shaylyn Eggleston in the round of 16. Reaching the quarterfinals would likely match her up with the only wrestler to hand her a defeat in the last two months in Lakeland's Jayden Laurent. That setback came in the WCWA quarterfinals, and Helm shot right back up to finish third, while Laurent finished second. Also on that side of the bracket is Simon Fraser's No. 1 Alyvia Fiske.
  • 170: Morales Dardon will also see a rematch in her first bout, taking on Schreiner's Mikayla Mata, who won in the final seconds at the NUWAY Open back in January. That quarterfinal matches up with top-ranked Korinahe Bullock of McKendree, with a semi against likely No. 4 Jessika Rottier of Wisconsin-Stevens Point or the No. 2-ranked 191-pounder in Simon Fraser's Emily Cue. No All-Americans from WCWAs are in the 170 bracket.
  • 191: The second of Gannon's WCWA All-Americans looks to repeat the feat this weekend. She gets challenged in the round of 16 right off the bat, taking on Simon Fraser's No. 5 Serena Woldring. That leads right into No. 4 Cristina Santoyo of Emmanuel, who topped McGarity at the National Duals, and the No. 1-ranked Sydnee Kimber of McKendree is also on that side of the bracket.

CHAMPIONSHIP STORYLINES
  • The National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championships mark the first women's wrestling national championship tournament exclusively for NCAA member schools, and leadership from the Women's Collegiate Wrestling Coalition plans to put on the event until an official NCAA championship for the sport becomes a reality.
  • Nineteen NCAA schools will be in attendance at Adrian this weekend, bringing nearly 200 wrestlers. All 10 of the schools ranked in the National Wrestling Coaches Association NCAA poll will be there.
  • In contrast, none of the top five were at the WCWA National Tournament in February. Only No. 6 Augsburg, No. 9 Gannon and No. 10 Tiffin were there from the top 10. Unraked Life finished second in the team race, and unranked Presbyterian finished fourth.
  • Gannon brings two of its four All-Americans to Michigan with it in Annabelle Helm (Vancouver, Wash./Union) and Kendall McGarity (Spring Branch, Texas/Smithson Valley). Helm went 6-1 to finish third at WCWAs, and sits 23-6 on the year and ranked third in the nation at 155. McGarity is ranked eighth, and finished seventh in a tough field at WCWAs. Fellow WCWA All-American's Chrystal Raine (Dallas, Texas/Liberty) (101 pounds) and Amara Devericks (Capistrano Beach, Calif./Corona) (170) are out due to injury.
  • Each team was able to enter up to 15 individuals into the tournament, with a max of two at any single weight class. Only one wrestler per team at each weight class will score points toward the team race. The top eight grapplers will earn All-America honors.
