HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams had a slow start Wednesday night with the first two and a half minutes scoreless. Sydney Mitchell (Baltimore, Md./Seton Keough) connected from the arc at the 7:26 mark for the first field goal of the quarter. Michaela Barnes knotted the game 3-3 over two minutes later with a three pointer to beat the shot clock. Tori Obenrader (Fryburg, Pa./North Clarion) got on the board next for the Knight to give them a two point edge at the media timeout. Barnes started to heat up to close the first as she scored five points in the final minutes. Edinboro led 11-7 going into the second.
- Obenrader and Ali Benim (Erie, Pa./Harbor Creek) knocked down consecutive baskets in the first two minutes of the second to get Gannon within one of Edinboro. Mitchell would tie the game for the second time with a three-pointer at the 5:40 mark. Mitchell's three sparked a 7-0 run by Gannon over the next 1:52 of the quarter. Tewes tallied a point from the foul line, while Obenrader also connected from the arc giving the Knights a 21-17 lead. Rana Elhusseini and Barnes regained the lead for the Fighting Scots with five straight points, but the Knights used 10-4 run over the last 2:38 to take a 31-26 edge at the break.
- Emily Poling (Defiance, Ohio/Defiance) got on board to open the third with a three-pointer for the Knights. She would connect on a jumper just before the media timeout to tally five quick points and help hold on to the lead. The teams played pretty evenly for the rest of the third, but the Fighting Scots were able to shave a point off Gannon's lead. Barnes hit a jumper to close the quarter, but the Knights led 47-39.
- Much like the first, the fourth quarter got off to a slow start. Poling hit a three-pointer at the 7:27 mark for the first field goal of the fourth. Gannon wouldn't strike again from the field until the 4:32 mark on a layup from Obenrader. The Fighting Scots got within eight points three different times. Barnes knocked down a pair of free throws with 2:49 left in the game in a last attempt to spark an Edinboro rally. The Knights would go 7-for-8 in the final 1:45 to hold on to a 67-53 win.
