  • The Short Story: Gannon blanked Seton Hill, 3-0, in the first round of the 2019 NCAA Atlantic Regional Tournament. Ashley Beyers (Lanark, Ill./Eastland) handed out a match-high 37 assists to lead the Knights.
 GAME DAY MEDIA CENTER HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Seton Hill took advantage of Gannon mistakes jumping out to a quick 6-3 lead. The Knights fought their way back to take their first lead of the day, 8-7, after a block from Beyers and Maggie Greenfield (Woodstock, Ontario/Woodstock Collegiate Institute). Gannon then rattled off the next five points to stretch their lead to 13-7 following a kill from Greenfield. Gannon went on to take the opening frame, 25-20.
  • Gannon continued to apply pressure into the second set doubling up Seton Hill, 8-4, after a kill from Ally Smith (Penfield, N.Y./Webster Schroeder). The Knights didn't let up from there growing their lead to eight, 15-7, after Ashley McClung (Charleston, W.Va./George Washington) delivered a kill. Gannon went on to close out the second set, 25-16. The Knights posted a .359 hitting percentage as a team in the frame.
  • The Knights got out to a 9-4 lead in the third set after a 3-0 run was capped off by a kill from Ashley Kerestes (Loves Park, Ill./Rockford Lutheran). Seton Hill pushed back to pull within two, 13-11, by the midway point of the frame. Gannon answered with a four straight points to stretch its lead back up five, 17-11, after a block from McClung. The Knights went on to win the third set, 25-14.
     
GAME NOTES
  • This season marked Gannon's 11th straight and 17th NCAA Tournament appearance in program history.
  • The Knights have recorded 27 sweeps this season. It marked the first sweep in an NCAA Tournament match since Gannon swept Shepherd in the 2018 NCAA Atlantic Regional Tournament.
  • Head coach Matt Darling earned his 300th career win. He is the all-time winningest coach in program history and has compiled a 300-124 career record over 13 seasons.
  • Gannon registered a .307 hitting percentage as a team in comparison to Seton Hill's .051.
  • Beyers totaled a match-high 37 assists with seven digs and three kills.
  • Smith tallied a match-high 13 kills with nine digs.
  • Lauren Sampson (Hilliard, Ohio/Hilliard Davidson) notched her eighth double-double of the season with 10 kills and 10 digs.
  • Toni Leitshuh (Manhattan, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) totaled a match-best 17 digs. She has recorded double digits in digs in her last 24 consecutive matches.
  • Kenzie Lasher (Ford City, Pa./Armstrong) contributed 10 digs on the defensive end of the floor. It marked her seventh time this season reaching double digits in digs.
  • Six Knights contributed at least three kills in the match.
UP NEXT
  • Second-seeded Gannon advances to the NCAA Tournament Second Round tomorrow and will play sixth-seeded Shepherd. First serve is set for 5:00 p.m. at McDonough Center in Wheeling, W. Va.
  • Earlier this season, Gannon fell to Shepherd in the PSAC Final Four, 3-0, on Nov. 22. The all-time series between the two programs is locked, 3-3.
