GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Battlers came out firing connecting on their first three shots from three to open up a 9-2 edge by the 18:02 mark. Gannon then began to find an offensive rhythm climbing their way back to lock the contest, 13-13, after Victor Olawoye (Elmont, N.Y./Elmont Memorial) got a layup to drop in traffic with 14:03 on the clock. The Battlers responded to silence the Hammermill Center crowd rattling off eight straight points to regain the lead, 21-13.
  • Michael Tertsea (Benue State, Nigeria/John Carroll) stopped the Alderson Broaddus run sinking a layup from Jonathan Harewood (Baldwin, N.Y./St. Anthony's), 21-15, with 10:37 to play in the half. The Battlers then continued to hit from three with an 8-3 run, which included two more triples to stretch their lead to 29-18. Matt Johnson (Chicago, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) answered the Knights with four straight points after a jumper and a couple free throws to cut the deficit to seven, 29-22, at the 3:13 mark. Gannon trailed at the intermission, 35-25. Cisero led all scorers at the break with a game-high 15 points.
  • Both teams traded points to open the second half until Olawoye and Cisero each delivered a layup to pull Gannon within eight, 46-38, with 15:52 to play. Gannon continued to push back after Chris Clancy (Staten Island, N.Y./St. Peter's Boys) knocked down a three to pull within four, 50-46. The Knights started to ride the momentum after Frank Webb Jr found Harwood for a layup to lock the contest, 59-59, with 8:55 to play.
  • The Knights then took control with a 6-2 run to steal the lead, 65-61, after a Cisero jumper. The Battlers pushed back to lock the contest, 72-72, with 3:11 to play. Gannon then erupted with a strong 9-2 run to close out the remaining time. The stretch was fueled by four points from Cisero, three from Olawoye and two from Clancy to seal the Knights' second straight win, 81-74.
