HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a feeling-out period that lasted the first five minutes, the teams started to press on attack. A corner in the eighth minute led to Gannon's first chance of the game, Lennox Crews (Offenbach, Germany/Leibnizschule) drew the corner with a deflected shot, and Layton Bingham (Gold Coast, Australia/The Southport School) got a shot off that the Millersville keeper got to near the post.
- The Marauders took their first big chance in the 20th minute, but Chandler Hallwood (Halifax, England/Woodhouse Grove) stayed right with the shot, diving to punch it out of the way. The Golden Knights then cleared out a corner less than a minute later to keep it scoreless.
- Sergio Del Castillo (Madrid, Spain) and Ivan Manfredi (Chiavari, Italy/Liceo Scientifico Marconi Delpino) each were able to create a shot inside the box as the first half continued, but neither was able to get the ball on frame.
- An excellent individual effort from Bob Hennessey created just enough room, and the Marauder slipped a left-footed shot inside the near post from five yards out to give the hosts the first lead of the game just 33 seconds into the second half.
- The Marauders kept pushing with its counter attack, putting all kinds of pressure in the first 20 minutes of the second half. Hallwood made a huge stop on a breakaway in the 53rd, and Bingham booted a ball off the line on a follow-up shot.
- Hallwood made another big save on a one-on-one in the 66th minute, leaving the Golden Knights the chance to tie it. The final 20 minutes saw the guests pepper the box with crosses and entry passes, but the Millersville defense and keeper Darian McCauley were able to hold them at bay.
