KEY SEQUENCE
  • After winter weather pushed the game to Monday afternoon, both teams shook off the rust from a shaky first half to deliver in the final 20 minutes. A jumper from Clarion's Taylor Moltz brought the visitors to within one point (46-45) with 5:27 left in the game, but the Lady Knights took control from there by responding with a quick 7-0 run for a 53-45 lead. A block from Chelsea Rourke (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) jumpstarted the Gannon scoring run and Nicole LaCava (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory) converted an and-one opportunity on the other end as Gannon took the lead for good with 4:29 left in the divisional matchup.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Clarion opened the scoring with the first two buckets of the afternoon, with Yasmin Lewis and Kadijah Dickson handing the visitors a 4-0 lead. Rourke responded on the other end by drawing a foul on a fastbreak layup with 6:33 showing on the first quarter clock to bring Gannon to within 4-3.
  • Rourke pushed Gannon ahead with another fastbreak layup with 5:00 minutes left in the frame and Sydney Mitchell (Halethorpe, Md./Seton Keough) extended the edge to four (10-6) with a three from Aiora Rivas (Ibiza, Spain/IES CTEIB). Clarion rallied back to take an 11-10 lead but Tori Obenrader (Fryburg, Pa./North Clarion) converted inside off a crisp pass from Boston McKinney (Bolivar, Ohio/Tuscarawas Valley) to hand the lead back to the Lady Knights at 12-11 with 1:49 left in the first quarter.
  • Lewis scored the first hoop of the second quarter with 8:10 left in the opening half as Clarion surged ahead by five (17-12) before Ivana Twumasi (Jane and Finch, Ontario/Central Tech) lined up a three from the left wing as Gannon trailed by just two. Off a Clarion turnover, Gannon maintained its hot shooting from beyond the arc with a three from Obenrader at 5:58, making the score 18-17 in favor of the Lady Knights.
  • Lauren Tewes (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Kettering) notched two foul shots, ultimately proving to be the final points of the half for Gannon at 5:15 in the second quarter until Twumasi converted a pair from the charity stripe with 12 seconds remaining in the half. Clarion held a narrow 23-22 lead heading into the halftime locker room.
  • LaCava opened the second half with a layup just eight seconds in, as Gannon began to assert its dominance inside against a short-handed Clarion squad hampered by foul trouble. Rourke drilled a trey ball at 8:25 to keep Gannon in front and another three at 5:54 ballooned the Gannon lead to eight at 34-26.
  • Clarion trimmed its deficit to just three (34-31) with back-to-back buckets but a McKinney steal and lead pass ahead to Rourke led to a timely fastbreak hoop at 4:33 in the third. McKinney also hit two foul shots with 11 seconds remaining in the frame to hand Gannon a 42-39 lead heading into the fourth.
  • Rourke continued her stellar play to begin the fourth with a jumper just 28 seconds in and Lauren Tewes (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Kettering) handed Gannon a 46-43 lead with a shot at the seven minute mark of the fourth as Gannon led 46-43.
  • Moltz brought Clarion to within one with a jump shot at 5:27 in the fourth but Gannon used its defense to carry its offense. Rourke blocked a shot, was of four on the afternoon, and Gannon was off and running as L. Tewes worked it inside to a posted LaCava for an old fashioned three-point play. The Lady Knights were strong at the foul line the rest of the way and maintained the lead the rest of the way.

GAME NOTES
  • Head coach Jim Brunelli earned his 100th career victory as the head coach of the Lady Knights.
  • Cancer survivors were recognized in a pregame ceremony as part of the Pink Zone festivities at the Hammermill Center.
  • Gannon gets back to the .500 mark on the season following its third consecutive win.
  • Kadijah Dickson posted her fifth double-double of the season, scoring 16 points and pulling down a game-high 12 boards.
  • Gannon scored 42 points in the second half in the comeback victory after notching just 22 in the opening two quarters. The Lady Knights shot 48% from the floor as a team in the second half and posted 20 points in both the third and fourth quarters.
  • The Lady Knights went 19-of-20 from the charity stripe, with their only miss coming with just 31 seconds left in the game.
  • Rourke had another all-around effort for Gannon with a game-high 17 points. She added six rebounds, four blocks and a steal in 36 minutes.
  • Mitchell also stuffed the stat sheet across the board, with six points, seven rebounds, seven assists and two steals in 36 minutes. Here seven assists are the third most in a game this season for Mitchell and just two shy of a career-high.
  • Today's rescheduled game was one of six in the PSAC to take place on Monday, while two other league contests were held on Friday.
  • Gannon and Clarion entered Monday's matchup as two of the lowest scoring teams in the league, ranking 14th and 15th overall in scoring offense. Among 17 schools, only Kutztown or Mansfield score less on average in the PSAC.
  • Both teams entered Monday stout on the defensive end, ranking third (Clarion; 60.5 ppg) and sixth (Gannon; 64.8 ppg) in the league in scoring defense.
