GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • After Bloomsburg scored the first goal, Gannon netted consecutive scores to assume a 2-1 lead 5:49 into the contest. Senior Leilani King (St. Albans, Vt./Bellows Free Academy) starting the scoring with an unassisted goal, before junior Kayla Shields (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) finished an assist from sophomore Erin Rotondo (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan).
  • The Huskies tied the contest midway through the first half.
  • A little over four minutes later, junior Kat Martinelli (Airmont, N.Y./Suffern) redirected a pass from junior Alexa Bower (Rochester, N.Y./Brighton) to give Gannon a 3-2 lead with 12:09 showing on the clock.
  • That proved to be the halftime score as neither team was able to muster another goal the rest of the way.
  • The second half was in complete contrast to the first as the two clubs combined to score 17 goals.
  • Gannon appeared to take control with six of the first eight goals after the break. Five different Lady Knights scored during the run. Rotondo was the only student-athlete with multiple goals in that time span.
  • Freshman Maddie Krock (Granville, Ohio/Granville)'s seventh goal of the season capped the blitz, giving Gannon a 9-4 edge with 14:14 to play.
  • Bloomsburg got off the deck and ripped off four consecutive scores to climb within 9-8 at the 6:45 mark.
  • Gannon wasn't going to be turned away though on Senior Day. Shields stopped the Huskies' momentum with her second tally of the afternoon, scoring off an assist from King 50 seconds after the last Bloomsburg goal.
  • King followed with two draw controls and two unassisted scores to push the Gannon lead to 12-8 with 3:53 remaining.
  • Bloomsburg netted two more goals with 1:21 to play and 37 seconds left, but King won her 10th draw control of the match and the Lady Knights were able to run out the clock.
