ERIE, Pa. - The Gannon co-ed competitive cheer team recently completed a successful weekend that included a pair of first-place finishes at the CANAM Collegiate Championships in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and the Battle at the Capitol in National Harbor, Maryland.

The co-ed team placed first out of four teams at the CANAM Collegiate Championships with an 85.2 final score that included no deductions. Limestone (83.03), Appalachian State (77.13) and Emory & Henry followed in the team standings.

The Golden Knights received a perfect score for jump difficulty. The performance included 4.9 points for running tumbling difficulty, 4.8 points for standing tumbling difficulty, 4.7 points for standing tumbling technique, 4.7 points for jump technique, 4.5 points for running tumbling technique, 4.1 points for toss technique and four points for pyramid difficulty. All scores were out of five possible points.

Gannon then traveled to Oxon Hill, Maryland for a two-day event in the Battle at the Capitol. The co-ed team captured the team title again, finishing as the highest-scoring team across all divisions.

The Golden Knights finished the first day with an 84.25 composite final score. The squad produced a perfect score for toss difficulty. It received a 9.7 out of 10 points for routine composition and 9.6 out of 10 for performance. Other first-day scores out of five points included 4.9 points for toss technique, 4.8 points for running tumbling technique, 4.7 points for standing tumbling technique, 4.2 points for pyramid technique and 4.1 points for stunt technique.

On day two, Gannon generated an 84.70 composite score that included identical scores for routine composition and performance. The Golden Knights posted two perfect scores, doing so in toss difficulty for the second consecutive day and toss technique for the first time. The squad improved their scores for stunt technique (4.2), standing tumbling technique (4.8) and jump technique (4.9). It also matched first-day results for pyramid technique.

Gannon concluded the two-day event with a final score of 84.59 points, representing 93.16 percent of perfection. The first day's composite score accounted for 25 percent of the final score while the second day equaled 75 percent.

Head coach Meghan Foran's squad returns home Saturday, March 24 when it hosts the Road to Daytona Showcase at the Hammermill Center. Action begins at 12 noon.
