Gannon Bats Unload Against Ursuline; Lady Knights Split Pair of Games on Friday in Clermont, Fla.

THE RUNDOWN
  • Game One Score:  Missouri-St. Louis 6, Gannon 5 (11 innings)
  • Game Two Score: Gannon 9, Ursuline 0 (5 innings)
  • Records: Gannon (4-6), Ursuline (1-1), UMSL (5-8)
  • Location: Clermont, Fla. – Hancock Park
  • The Short Story: Gannon Softball split its pair of games on Thursday, Mar. 2, in Clermont, Fla. The Lady Knights downed Ursuline, 9-0, in five innings, while dropping an 11-inning contest to Missouri-St. Louis, 6-5.

GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER
HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME ONE
  • Gannon scored the first run of the game in the second inning after Sarah Ingerick (Middlebury Center, Pa./Wellsboro Area) doubled and an errant throw allowed Nicole Bush.
  • Before the inning would end, Ingerick would score on a wild pitch to give Gannon a 2-0 lead.
  • UMSL tied it up in the fifth inning after Jennah Perryman doubled to left center, scoring two runs.
  • The Tritons took a 3-2 lead in the top of the sixth, after AndreeTiffee produced an RBI groundout.
  • The Lady Knights were down to their final out on the bottom of the seventh with Taylor Wilp (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) standing on first. Kellyn Perich (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) stepped to the plate and delivered a timely double to right field, scoring Wilp.
  • The game went to extra innings where each team tallied runs in the ninth and 10th innings.
  • UMSL pushed its sixth run of the game across in the 11th inning. Serena Olson singled to right field, plating Tiffee.
  • Gannon had runners on first and second with no outs in the bottom of the 11th  but two quick strikeouts had the Lady Knights down to their final out.
  • A ground ball to short ended the game, with Missouri-St. Louis taking a 6-5 victory in 11 innings.
     
GAME NOTES - GAME ONE
  • Gannon had seven hits spread across five individuals. Wilp led the Lady Knights with three hits, scoring two runs.
  • Gannon (11) and Missouri-St. Louis (9) combined for 20 runners left on base.
  • Perich, Ingerick and Wilp all doubled in the game.
     
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Gannon played in their second extra-inning game of the season.
  • The Lady Knights recorded a season-high four stolen bases.
  • Perich reached base in her ninth consecutive game to begin the season.
     
HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME TWO
  • The Lady Knights struck first against Ursuline in the second inning.
  • With the bases loaded, Perich laced a single to left field, scoring Kaity Stocker (Tipp City, Ohio/Tippecanoe) and Lisa Szajn (Maple, Ontario/St. Joan of Arc Catholic). Gannon led, 2-0.
  • The Lady Knights had the bases loaded again in the third inning as Stocker stepped to the plate. She swung and unloaded a Grand Slam to center field. It was the first home run for Gannon this season. It was also the first in Stocker's career.
  • One inning later, Rachel Tanilli (Gibsonia, Pa./Deer Lakes) punched a three-run shot of her own to center field, making the score 9-0 in favor of the Lady Knights. The home run was Tanilli's fifth of her career.
  • Madi Beining (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) pitched a complete game, holding Ursuline to just three hits as Gannon took a 9-0 run-rule decision.
     
GAME NOTES - GAME TWO
  • Gannon out-hit Ursuline, 9-3.
  • Stocker and Tanilli each recorded home runs for Gannon.
  • Stocker led Gannon with a 1-for-3 afternoon, scoring twice and driving in four runs.
  • The Lady Knights left just three runners on base compared to Ursuline's five.
 
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Perich reached base for the 10th consecutive game to start the season. She's the only Lady Knight to accomplish that feat.
  • The Lady Knights had their first Grand Slam since Perich hit one against USciences on March 10, 2017 in Salem, Va.
  • Gannon shut out its second opponent of the season, both 9-0, five-inning decisions.
