GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • For the second consecutive game, Gannon came out of the gates on fire. The Golden Knights out-scored the visitors 18-6 during the opening seven minutes and 26 seconds.
  • Five different student-athletes scored during the run with seniors Jair Green (Williamstown, N.J./Paul VI) and Zay Jackson (Queens, N.Y./Westside) scoring five points each. Green opened the game with the first five points, before Jackson later capped the run with a three-pointer and jumper for a 12-point lead with 12:34 showing on the clock.
  • Indiana (Pa.) called time-out and regrouped with six straight points from Dante Lombardi who hit a three-pointer and then converted an old-fashion three-point play.
  • The Crimson Hawks came all the way back and cut the deficit to 22-20, but Gannon responded with six straight points to regain an eight-point advantage (28-20) at the 4:40 mark. Junior Evan Phoenix (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) scored the first two baskets, before senior Gerrell Williams (Lorain, Ohio/Clearview) made a lay-up.
  • However, IUP went back to the three-ball as Anthony Glover Jr. drilled a pair of long-range shots to pull the Crimson Hawks back within two points at 28-26.
  • Gannon countered with lay-ups by redshirt sophomore Frank Webb Jr. (Baltimore, Md./Our Lady of Mount Carmel) and freshman Cyril Ogbuagu (Lagos, Nigeria/Riverdale Baptist (Md.)) at the buzzer for a 32-26 halftime lead.
  • As they did in the first half, the Golden Knights exploded out of the locker room for the second half. After an IUP jumper, the home squad produced a 20-4 blitz over the span of four minutes and 39 seconds.
  • In almost a carbon copy of the first half, Green ignited the run with back-to-back three-pointers. Phoenix then took over and scored the next six points. Senior Damon Miraud (Elizabeth, N.J./Elizabeth) capped the stretch with a hoop while being fouled, pushing the lead to 52-32 with 14:38 to play.
  • That's when Glover Jr. caught fire. The senior guard ripped off an 11-2 run as a solo act with three long balls and a lay-up. It was the start of a 16-2 overall blitz that brought the Crimson Hawks back within 54-48 midway through the second half.
  • As it did all night, Gannon responded with consecutive lay-ups by Green and Miraud to regain a double-digit lead.
  • The two teams battled on even terms the rest of the way. IUP cut the deficit to six points several times during the next six minutes and eventually to 69-66 on three free throws.
  • However, Gannon iced the victory with a perfect 6-of-6 chart at the free throw line during the final 30 seconds.

GAME NOTES
  • Green led the Gannon scoring attack for the eighth time this season with 21 points, falling one point shy of his career-high while hitting 7-of-11 shots.

  • Phoenix added 17 points and seven rebounds, missing only one of his seven shot attempts.
  • Jackson rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points, four rebounds, six assists and one turnover in 38 minutes.
  • Gannon shot 50 percent (26-52) from the field, including a 60-percent (12-20) clip during the second half. The Golden Knights shot 40 percent (6-15) from three-point range and 81 percent (17-21) from the free throw line.
  • Glover Jr. topped all scorers on both sides with 29 points for Indiana (Pa.), scorching the nets with an 11-of-18 overall effort and 6-of-11 three-point shooting.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE

  • The Golden Knights snapped a five-game losing streak against the Crimson Hawks, winning for the first time since a 69-66 decision in the 2015 PSAC Championship Game at the Hammermill Center.
  • Gannon remained alive in the race for the PSAC Western Division regular-season title, but still sit two games back of IUP with two weeks left. The squad remained deadlocked with Slippery Rock for second place and the final PSAC Tournament first-round bye.

  • Gannon improved to 14-2 when leading at halftime, 16-3 when at least three Golden Knights reach double digits in scoring and 14-2 when scoring at least 70 points.
  • Jackson has dished out 15 assists compared to only two turnovers in 74 minutes during the last two games.
  • Gannon shot 50 percent or better for the ninth time this season, resulting in a victory every time.
  • The nine-point win was the Golden Knights' largest against the Crimson Hawks since a 73-57 road decision on January 24, 2009.
