HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Alex Lee Yaw (Jamestown, N.Y./Mercyhurst Prep) raced up the middle of the field and was sprung with a perfect go-ahead pass, ultimately scoring a goal that was waved off for an offside.
  • Gannon had several quality scoring chances in the first half, none better than a header opportunity from Austin Ludwik (Gold Coast, Australia/The Southport School) at 19:59 in the first half. The chance came off a corner kick from Srdjan Dujkovic (Darmstadt, Germany/) and was ultimately corralled by SHU goalie Austin Iddon.
  • Seton Hill had a chance off a set piece that was smothered by Hedi Mehnaoui (Paris, France/Lycee Chevrollier) as the first half clock ticked down.
  • The Griffins came out with a new energy in the second half, forcing Mehnaoui to make a few strong saves off header chances.
  • Baran Kilic (Darmstadt, Germany/Bertolt-Brecht-Schule) had perhaps the best scoring chance of the entire game, when a bouncing ball settled near him inside the eight-yard box. Kilic rushed a shot a ripped it high as the game remained scoreless.
  • Seton Hill cashed in just moments later with a quick rush up the field. Archie Lock scored the first goal of the game off a pass from Henrik berg as SHU took a 1-0 lead with less than 10 minutes remaining in regulation.
  • The Griffin lead was short-lived however, with the Golden Knights capitalizing on a chance just moments later. Ben Andrews (Saxonburg, Pa./Knoch), who had just entered the game for Ivan Manfreidi, found himself at the right place at the right time when a bouncing shot from Kilic was settled and put into the back of the net to tie the game at 1-1.
  • The score would remain tied through the end of regulation and Lee Yaw delivered the only shot of the first overtime session, ultimately knocking it high of the net.
  • Joe Knox (Gold Coast, Australia/The Southport School) had a chance just under a minute into the second overtime frame that was saved by Iddon.
  • With the score ties, the teams went on to penalty kicks. Seton Hill missed its second shot while Gannon missed its first and last shot as the Griffins narrowly advanced on a 5-4 win in penalty kicks.
