  • The Short Story – Gannon Men's Soccer used a strong second half to pull away from California (Pa.), 3-1, in Wednesday's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) contest.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Alex Lee Yaw (Jamestown, N.Y./Mercyhurst Prep) scored the first goal of the match in the 24th minute. He took a Sergio Kobowane (Johannesburg, South Africa/King Edward VII) pass and lined it into the net to give Gannon a 1-0 lead.
  • Gannon took the one-goal lead to the break, outshooting the Vulcans, 6-0.
  • California (Pa.) knotted the match at one in the 49th minute. Ismael Garcia slipped a ball in from the left side of the box. The match was tied at one.
  • Mathias Krigbaum (Greve, Denmark/Greve Gymnasium) laced home the go-ahead goal in the 62nd minute. He was a recipient of an Eduardo de Bonis Encinoso (Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain/Escuelas Pias Tenerife) pass that set up the goal. Gannon took a 2-1 lead.
  • Kobowane tacked on an insurance goal in the 63rd minute. Baran Kilic (Darmstadt, Germany/Bertolt-Brecht-Schule) crossed a ball into the box and Kobowane booted it home.
  • Jorge Hernandez (Atvidaberg, Sweden/Bildningscentrum Facetten) and the Gannon defense closed out the final minutes and sealed a 3-1 conference victory.
     
GAME NOTES
  • The Golden Knights moved to 4-0-1 in the conference, their best mark since the 2012 Golden Knights started 5-0.
  • The Vulcans goal in the 49th minute snapped a streak of 248 shutout minutes from the Gannon defense.
  • Gannon outshot California (Pa.), 13-3.
  • The Golden Knights took over the top spot in the PSAC standings. Gannon (4-0-1) has amassed 13 points, while West Chester (4-0-0) falls to second with 12 points.
  • Hernandez picked up the goalie victory moving to 5-3-1.
  • Gannon moved to 15-6 all-time against California (Pa.)
