Gannon Men's Soccer Wins Fourth In-A-Row; Shuts Down Shippensburg, 2-0

  • The Short Story – The Gannon Men's Soccer team moved to 3-0 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play with a 2-0 victory over the Shippensburg Raiders on Friday afternoon at McConnell Family Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Alex Lee Yaw (Jamestown, N.Y./Mercyhurst Prep) ripped a ball in the 11th minute that couldn't be secured by Shippensburg.  A crashing Mathias Krigbaum (Greve, Denmark/Greve Gymnasium) cleaned up with his fifth goal of the season on a put back. 
  • Gannon held the one-goal advantage through halftime. The Golden Knights held a seven to one advantage in shots.
  • Gannon had a had a near goal in the 66th minute. Lee Yaw took a shot from 30 yards out that was just tipped away by Shippensburg goalie, Matt Harder.
  • Gannon struck for its second goal in the 74th minute, Eduardo de Bonis Encinoso (Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain/Escuelas Pias Tenerife) took a Krigbaum pass and delivered it into the back of the net. Gannon took a 2-0 lead.
  • Jorge Hernandez (Atvidaberg, Sweden/Bildningscentrum Facetten) and the Golden Knight defense finished out the final 16 minutes, preserving the 2-0 victory.
     
GAME NOTES
  • Alex Lee Yaw (Jamestown, N.Y./Mercyhurst Prep) picked up his team-leading fourth assist of the season on the Krigbaum 11th-minute goal.
  • Gannon issued its second shutout of the season. Hernandez picked up the goalie victory, moving his record to 4-3 overall.
  • The Golden Knights moved to 3-0 in the PSAC for the first time since 2012.
  • Gannon outshot Shippensburg 17-5 in the match.
  • The Golden Knights moved to 9-2-1 all-time against the Raiders.
