HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME ONE
  • Freshman Madi Beining (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Allegheny) started in the circle for Gannon, striking out a batter in each of the first three innings.
  • Gannon struck first, getting on the board in the bottom of the third inning. Kellyn Perich (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) singled up the middle to begin the inning and moved to second on a Lisa Szajn (Maple, Ontario/St. Joan of Arc Catholic) sacrifice bunt.
  • Jackie Martinez (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier College Prep) came to the plate with two outs and smacked a single to the outfield, scoring Perich. Gannon led 1-0 after three innings.
  • The Lady Knights added another run in the fifth inning with an Allie Salerno (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) sacrifice fly that plated Sarah Ingerick (Middlebury Center, Pa./Wellsboro Area) from third base. Gannon took a 2-0 lead.
  • Bloomsburg got things rolling in the sixth. Taylor Winkelman singled to lead off the inning and was doubled home by Taylor Parker.
  • Gannon made a pitching switch with Olivia Gumbita (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) coming on to relieve Beining. The Huskies tied the game at two but Gumbita worked out of a bases loaded jam with no outs to limit the damage.
  • The game went to extra innings where the Lady Knights and Huskies traded zeroes in the eighth inning.
  • Bloomsburg caught fire in the ninth, collecting six hits and scoring five runs to take a 7-2 lead.
  • Gannon pushed a run across in the bottom of the inning but it wasn't enough as BU took the game, 7-3.
