GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER
HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME ONE
  • Olivia Gumbita (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) was cruising early on, the senior struck out five Fighting Scots through the first three innings.
  • In the bottom of the fourth, Maria Taliani (Cheswick, Pa./Deer Lakes) had a lead-off walk and was pushed into scoring position by a Rachel Tanilli (Gibsonia, Pa./Deer Lakes) bunt. The Lady Knights weren't able to get Taliani in, though, as she was left stranded on the base paths.
  • Gannon finally broke through in the fifth with two runs.
  • Sarah Ingerick (Middlebury Center, Pa./Wellsboro Area) occupied third and Jenn Krider (Conneaut Lake, Pa./Linesville) was on second base after pinch-running for Jackie Martinez (Phoenix, Ariz./Xavier College Prep). Kellyn Perich (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) worked a 3-1 count before dropping down a squeeze bunt that scored Ingerick.
  • Gannon went up 1-0 with Krider standing on third and Perich on first.
  • Kherrin Morgan (Hamilton, Ohio/Talawanda) was next up and produced an RBI-groundout, scoring Krider.
  • The Lady Knights took a 2-0 headed to the sixth.
  • Edinboro and Gasnnon traded runs in the sixth inning. Rachel Tanilli (Gibsonia, Pa./Deer Lakes) ripped a lead-off double to center and scored on a Lisa Szajn (Maple, Ontario/St. Joan of Arc Catholic) squeeze bunt down the third base line.
  • Gannon led 3-1 after six innings and held on for the victory by the same score.

GAME NOTES - GAME ONE
  • Tanilli clubbed her third double of the season, resulting in one of Gannon's three runs.
  • Gumbita pitched a complete game, picking up her 12th victory of the season. She allowed six hits and struck out nine for the Lady Knights.
  • Lisa Szajn (Maple, Ontario/St. Joan of Arc Catholic) and Sarah Ingerick (Middlebury Center, Pa./Wellsboro Area) both had two-hit games.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • 12 of the last 15 games the Lady Knights have played, have been decided by one run.
  • Gannon had two comeback victories at Edinboro on April 9th. The Lady Knights rallied to take the lead with two outs in seventh of game one to win 2-1 and in the sixth inning of game two for a 4-3 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED - GAME TWO
  • The Fighting Scots got on the board first with an unearned run in the third inning.
  • Gannon got the run back in the bottom of the fourth after the Lady Knights loaded the bases with one out. Autumn Smith (Branchville, N.J./High Point Regional) stepped to the plate producing a groundout that scored Kellyn Perich (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) from third base. The game was tied at one after the fourth inning.
  • Edinboro scored another two unearned runs in the top of the fifth.
  • Gannon's late-inning magic continued in game two. The Lady Knights loaded the bases with one out in fifth.
  • Kherrin Morgan (Hamilton, Ohio/Talawanda) hit a laser to right that pushed everybody up one base, scoring Sarah Ingerick (Middlebury Center, Pa./Wellsboro Area). Gannon was down just one at 3-2.
  • Next batter up, Maria Taliani (Cheswick, Pa./Deer Lakes) flied out to right field. The fly ball was deep enough to score Allie Salerno (Hamburg, N.Y./Hamburg) from third. The game was tied up at three.
  • The bases were still loaded as Autumn Smith (Branchville, N.J./High Point Regional) stepped to the plate and worked a walk to push the lead runner across the plate.
  • The Lady Knights took a 4-3 lead to the sixth inning.
  • The Fighting Scots were down to their final two outs when a single followed by a double had the Fighting Scots threatening.
  • The Lady Knights intentionally walked the bases loaded and created a force at any base. Claire Johnston stepped to the plate and hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game up at four.
  • Heather Tighe was next at the plate and grounded into a fielder's choice at third for the final out.
  • The game would head to extra innings and both teams had opportunities to win it. Edinboro and Gannon both stranded a runner at third base in the eighth inning.
  • The ninth inning saw the same opportunities for both teams. Edinboro had runners on first and second base with two outs when Gannon brought in Olivia Gumbita (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe) to try to hold the Fighting Scots.
  • Tighe worked an eight-pitch at-bat before the Gumbita got her swinging to end the inning.
  • Taliani led-off the bottom of the ninth with a walk and advanced to second on a Tanilli single to third base.
  • Autumn Smith (Branchville, N.J./High Point Regional) sacrificed Taliani and Tanilli up to second and third base with one out.
  • Ashley Bower (Middleport, N.Y./Royalton-Hartland) was walked to load the bases and Sarah Ingerick (Middlebury Center, Pa./Wellsboro Area) stepped to the plate with another potential walk-off in sight.
  • Ingerick took pitch one for a ball before squaring up and bunting a ball down the first base line while Taliani danced across the plate for the game-winner.
