  • Location: Bowie, Md. - A.C. Jordan Arena
  • The Short Story: The Bowie State men's basketball team rallied from an early 18-1 deficit and knocked off Gannon 63-59 in overtime Wednesday night at the A.C. Jordan Arena. The Bulldogs extended their win streak to three games after grabbing 21 offensive rebounds and forcing 29 Gannon turnovers during the come-from-behind victory.

GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • It was originally all Gannon for the first nine and half minutes. The Golden Knights scored the first 14 points and eventually led 18-1 with 10:30 left in the first half.
  • Senior Zay Jackson (Queens, N.Y./Westside) scored 10 of Gannon's first 18 points. Senior Damon Miraud (Elizabeth, N.J./Elizabeth) netted six points while junior Daryl Porter (Southfield, Mich./Walled Lake Western) added a field goal.
  • Meanwhile, the Golden Knights held the Bulldogs scoreless for the first seven minutes and 40 seconds. The home team went eight minutes and 44 seconds without a field goal.
  • A three-pointer by Dayshawn Wells not only ended the streak of no field goals, but also ignited a 10-2 run that cut the deficit to single digits.
  • Gannon eventually went to halftime with a 32-22 advantage following a jumper by freshman Devin Smith (Baltimore, Md./Newtown) with 16 seconds left in the opening stanza.
  • Bowie State controlled the majority of the second half, scoring the first six points and generating a 12-4 run that cut the difference to 34-32.
  • Gannon appeared to fight off the rally and still held a 45-39 lead midway through the second half.
  • Bowie State followed with eight straight points to assume its first lead of the night at 47-45 with 7:09 remaining.
  • The two teams then battled through five ties and five lead changes during the remainder of regulation.
  • Gannon took a 53-52 lead on a pair of free throws by senior Jair Green (Williamstown, N.J./Paul VI) with 2:56 to play.
  • Wells responded with a three-pointer to push Bowie State back in front 55-53.
  • Senior Gerrell Williams (Lorain, Ohio/Clearview) answered with a jumper in the paint, tying the score at 55 with 1:53 left on the clock.
  • After back-to-back Gannon turnovers, Ahmaad Wilson appeared to give the home team a win by draining a jumper with four seconds left.
  • But Gannon went the length of the court in three seconds to force overtime. Junior Evan Phoenix (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) inbounded the ball to Miraud who hit a streaking Green with a bounce pass for a game-tying lay-up that sent the teams into an extra session.
  • The two squads battled over two minutes in overtime without a point. Bowie State finally ended the drought with a lay-in while being fouled after an offensive rebound.
  • A Phoenix lay-up on Gannon's next possession cut the deficit to one, but it proved to be the Golden Knights' final points of the game.
  • Gannon missed four potential game-tying shots during the final 33 seconds, before Bowie State hit a free throw with two seconds left to ice a 63-59 victory.

GAME NOTES
  • Jackson led the Gannon offensive attack with 17 points, including 15 during the opening 20 minutes.
  • Williams was the other Golden Knight in double digits with 10 points.
  • Phoenix and Miraud pulled down 13 and 11 rebounds, respectively. Both student-athletes scored eight points each.
  • Gannon shot 48.1 percent (25-52) from the field, but only 11.1 percent (1-9) during the overtime session. The Golden Knights shot 25 percent (3-12) from three-point range and 40 percent (6-15) from the free throw line.
  • Bowie State's Omari George topped all scorers on both sides with 21 points and seven rebounds.
  • Wilson chipped in 10 points.
  • Bowie State shot 34.3 percent (24-70) from the floor, 18.2 percent (4-22) from behind the arc and 57.9 percent (11-19) from the charity stripe.
  • The Bulldogs out-rebounded the Golden Knights 43-39, including a 21-9 edge on the offensive glass which led to a 20-6 difference in second-chance points.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Gannon saw its brief two-game win streak snapped with Wednesday's setback.
  • The Golden Knights played their eighth overtime game in the last two seasons and 19th in the last five campaigns.
  • After winning six consecutive overtime decisions, Gannon has now dropped its last three dating back to last year's 91-85 loss to Kutztown in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) semifinals.
  • Wednesday's contest represented Gannon's first-ever appearance at Bowie State's A.C. Jordan Arena.
  • Williams scored a season-high 10 points for the second time during the last three games.
  • Jackson netted at least 17 points for the fourth consecutive contest.
  • Phoenix and Miraud reached double digits in rebounds for the third and second time this season, respectively. Miraud's 11 boards were a season-high.
  • Gannon hit three triples or less for the third consecutive game.
  • The Golden Knights' 29 turnovers were their most since matching that total during a 66-46 victory against Roberts Wesleyan at the Hammermill Center on November 23, 2012.
  • Bowie State's 21 offensive rebounds were the most by a Gannon opponent since Clarion had 21 during an 81-68 Golden Knight win at the Hammermill Center on February 26, 2011.
  • Gannon was out-rebounded for the first time in seven contests this season.
  • One game after winning for the first time this year when trailing at halftime, the Golden Knights lost for the first time when leading at the break.
