Gannon Volleyball Secures 25th Victory of Season; Shuts Door on Slippery Rock, 3-0 (Video)

ERIE, Pa. – Gannon Volleyball took care of business on Friday night (Nov. 10) against Slippery Rock, 3-0, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) contest. The Lady Knights won their 25th match of the season, the first PSAC school to reach that milestone. Video highlights are available here. A webcast replay of the event can be found here.

Gannon remains in a three-way tie for the top seed after Indiana (Pa.) and Seton Hill both won on Friday night. Indiana (Pa.) and Seton Hill play one another on Saturday in the regular-season finale. Multiple tiebreaker scenarios will be triggered depending on the score and outcome of the matches. If Gannon wins in three or four sets against Edinboro and Seton Hill wins in five against Indiana (Pa.), both teams would be tied at 15-3 and have 44 points in the tiebreaker formula. In the third tiebreaker, GU clinches the top seed having won 50 sets compared to Seton Hill's 49.

Ally Smith (Penfield, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) secured her ninth double-double of the season against the Rock. She compiled a team-high 16 kills while also throwing in 11 digs and two service aces.

Kelsey Ansec (Solon, Ohio/Solon) unleashed 13 kills against the Rock. It was Ansec's 10th straight double-digit kill effort for the Lady Knights. She leads the Lady Knights with 298 kills on the season.

Four Lady Knights issued double-digit digs on Friday night. Sara Crandall (Cattaraugus, N.Y./Cattaraugus-Little Valley) led the way with 15 digs while Toni Leitshuh (Manhattan, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) added 14. A. Smith and Maggie Wilhelm (Euclid, Ohio/Lake Catholic) finished with 11 and 10 respectively.

The Lady Knights owned sets owned the first two sets on Friday night before working a comeback in the third set. Gannon trailed 23-22 in the third set before A. Smith tied it up with a kill. Gannon took a 24-23 lead on another A. Smith kill that was set up by Ashley Beyers (Lanark, Ill./Eastland). Ashley Kerestes (Loves Park, Ill./Rockford Lutheran) finished off the set with the Lady Knights third-consecutive kill. Gannon took the set, 25-23.

Gannon improved to 25-5 on the season and 14-3 in the PSAC Northwest Division. Slippery Rock dropped to 11-18 overall, 3-14 in the Northwest Division. The victory marked Gannon's 16th 3-0 sweep of the season.

The Lady Knights host Edinboro on Saturday, Nov. 11, in the regular season finale. The match will also be Senior Day for the Lady Knights' seven seniors who will be playing in their final regular-season match at the Hammermill Center. The contest is slated for 2 p.m. with senior day festivities at the conclusion of the match.
