Gannon Men's Soccer's Eight-Match Unbeaten Streak Snapped at No. 13 West Chester, 1-0

  • The Short Story – Gannon Men's Soccer dropped its first match since Sept. 9, a string of eight matches, on Friday (Oct. 13). The 13th-ranked West Chester Golden Rams slipped past GU, 1-0, in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference contest.

GAMEDAY CENTRAL
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Mathias Krigbaum (Greve, Denmark/Greve Gymnasium) got off the first shot of the game in the fourth minute. The shot sailed wide of the mark for the Golden Knights.
  • The only other GU shot of the first half came off the foot of Srdjan Dujkovic (Darmstadt, Germany).
  • Gannon and West Chester went to halftime tied at zero, the Golden Rams holding the edge in shots, 3-2.
  • Jason Pixley broke through in the 71st minute for West Chester. Daniel Grindrod crossed a ball to Pixley who knocked it into the goal. It was his fourth goal of the season.
  • Gannon took a pair of shots in the last five minutes of the contest to try to tie it up. Joshua Ott (Erie, Pa./Mercyhurst Prep) made an attempt that sailed high, followed by a Baran Kilic (Darmstadt, Germany/Bertolt-Brecht-Schule) shot that skipped wide.

  • West Chester outshot Gannon, 11-9, in the match.
  • Kilic and Krigbaum each tied for a team-high two shots.
  • Also registering shots for Gannon were Austin Ludwik (Gold Coast, Australia/The Southport School), George Stannard (Hull, England/Cottingham), Alex Lee Yaw (Jamestown, N.Y./Mercyhurst Prep), Dujkovic and Ott.
  • Fouls were tied at 18 apiece.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • West Chester was ranked 13th nationally in the latest United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division II rankings.
  • Gannon snapped its streak of eight-straight unbeaten matches with the loss. The streak was the longest since the 2012 season.
  • Gannon fell to 4-4-1 against West Chester all-time.
