Rourke Shoots Way to Career-High; Gannon Drops 83-63 Decision to Seton Hill (Video)

THE RUNDOWN
  • Score: Seton Hill 83, Gannon 63
  • Records: Seton Hill (9-5, 5-3), Gannon (3-11, 3-5)
  • Location: Erie, Pa. - Hammermill Center (Gary Miller Court)
  • The Short Story: Freshmen Chelsea Rourke (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) and Haley Tewes (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Kettering) both recorded career-highs in scoring on Friday (Jan. 6) at the Hammermill Center but it wasn't enough for the victory as the Seton Hill Griffins hung on for an 83-63 decision.

GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Lauren Tewes (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Kettering) put the Lady Knights up 2-0 on a layup as GU drew first blood in the game.
  • A Chelsea Rourke (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) three-pointer and pair of Maggie Mitchell (Newark, Ohio/Newark) free throws kept the game knotted at nine points a piece midway through the first quarter.
  • Seton Hill went on a 10-2 run to finish the period. The Griffins led 19-11 after one quarter.
  • In the second quarter Haley Tewes (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Kettering) tried to close the gap further as she connected on a three-pointer at the 2:28 mark, Gannon trailed by just four points, 30-26. It was the Lady Knights smallest deficit in the quarter.
  • The Lady Knights couldn't finish out the half, however. Seton Hill strung together a 10-1 run in the final two minutes to head to the locker room up 40-27.
  • Haley Tewes (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Kettering) led Gannon with seven points and two rebounds at the half.
  • The third quarter saw two triples and layup from the freshman Rourke. She tallied eight of Gannon's 18 points in the segment.
  • Gannon trailed 59-45 heading into the final quarter.
  • The fourth quarter saw Keely Hall (Wakeman, Ohio/Firelands) score her first point of the season on a free throw with 1:21 remaining in the game. It was Keely's second game played this season.

GAME NOTES
  • Chelsea Rourke (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) bested her previous career-high of 16 points against Virginia Union with an 18-point performance on Friday against the Griffins.
  • Haley Tewes (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Kettering) tallied her first double-digit performance of her career with 10 points on four-of-seven shooting.
  • Fresh off a career-high six-assist game against California (Pa.), Maggie Mitchell (Newark, Ohio/Newark) tallied seven assists against Seton Hill.
  • Gannon committed a season-low 12 personal fouls in the game.
  • Seton Hill held a slim 17-16 advantage in bench scoring.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Gannon shot 22-of-53 from the field (.415). It's the third consecutive game the Lady Knights have shot at least 40 percent from the field, something that hasn't been done since the 2015-16 season.
  • Gannon's 16 turnovers was the third-lowest total of the season and the fewest since Gannon's 83-71 victory over East Stroudsburg on Dec. 10.

UP NEXT
  • Gannon heads to Pitt-Johnstown on Monday (Jan. 9) to take on the Mountain Cats.
  • The game is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
  • Pitt-Johnstown leads the all-time series, 22-7.
  • Gannon has won six straight games over Pitt-Johnstown dating back to 2013.
