GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Edinboro grabbed its biggest lead of the evening early with a mini 6-0 run that gave the Fighting Scots a 14-7 advantage 5:19 into the contest.
  • Gannon responded with 11 consecutive points to forge ahead 18-14. Sophomore Evan Phoenix (Stevensville, Md./Calvert Hall) accounted for six of those points.
  • A pair of free throws by Jaymon Mason at the 9:29 mark ended Edinboro's scoreless drought that lasted five minutes and 12 seconds.
  • The Gannon run continued after the Mason freebies with a pair of treys from junior Zay Jackson (Queens, N.Y./Westside) that pushed the lead to 24-16 with 6:47 left in the first half.
  • The Golden Knights' biggest advantage of the first half came at 27-18 following senior Matthew Dogan (West Middlesex, Pa./West Middlesex)'s three-pointer at the 4:24 mark.
  • The Gannon defense remained on lock down for the majority of the half, holding Edinboro without a field goal for 10 minutes and 29 seconds until Mike Beck's three-pointer with 4:12 showing on the clock.
  • Gannon's advantage remained at nine points (27-18), before Edinboro ripped off eight consecutive points to pull within one.
  • After a free throw by junior Damon Miraud (Elizabeth, N.J./Elizabeth) and lay-in by Dogan, the Fighting Scots countered with the final four points of the half to forge a 30-30 halftime deadlock.
  • Holding a 34-32 lead early in the second half, Gannon extended its lead to 39-32 on a Phoenix lay-up and Dogan three-pointer.
  • Edinboro slowly climbed back within 48-44, but a Phoenix lay-up and Dogan's fifth three-pointer of the evening pushed the advantage to 53-44 and forced a Fighting Scot time-out with 12:57 to play.
  • Another Dogan three-pointer midway through the final stanza gave Gannon a double-digit lead at 59-49.
  • Edinboro made one last push, scoring eight straight points to cut the deficit to 59-57 with 8:52 remaining. The Fighting Scots got as close as 61-60 at the 8:01 mark.
  • Gannon never surrendered the lead though. Two Phoenix free throws, a Jackson three-pointer and Dogan lay-up gave the Golden Knights breathing room again at 68-60 with 6:26 to play.
  • Edinboro was never able to get closer than five points the rest of the way.
  • Gannon later scored the final four points from the free throw line to account for the final 80-69 victory which represented the visitors' biggest lead of the evening.
