Gannon University volleyball got back to its winning ways on Tuesday (Sept. 20) as they swept the Daemen Wildcats on the road, 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-20).
The Gannon Lady Knights have beat opponents in three sets for the seventh time in 12 contests this season. The high powered attack that Gannon displays was again in full force against Daemen on Tuesday.
Kelsey Ansec (Solon, Ohio /Solon) led the Lady Knights with 13 kills while
Beka Smith (Churchville, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) added nine and
Hannah Kren (Waukesha, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran) posted eight kills.
Set one came down to the wire, up 23-21, Gannon's
Lauren Beck (Chardon, Ohio/Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin) took control and ended the set with two-straight kills. Gannon took the set, 25-21.
In set two, Gannon led 24-19 when Daemen tried to claw back for a victory. The Wildcats cut the deficit to 24-22 but Gannon's
Toni Leitshuh (Manhattan, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) shut the door with a kill to give Gannon the set, 25-22.
The momentum was on the side of Gannon in the third set as they began to stretch the lead early to 12-9, forcing Daemen to call timeout. The Wildcats were never able to get back in the set, though. Gannon went on to win the set, 25-20.
Gannon improves to 11-1 overall while Daemen drops to 6-5.
The Lady Knights will open Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play on Friday (Sept. 23) when Millersville comes to Erie, Pa. The match begins at 7 p.m.
