HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Indiana (Pa.) was off and running with the first eight points of the contest.
  • Gannon was finally able to get on the scoreboard 3:41 into the game when senior Morgan Neighbors (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville South) drilled a three-pointer.
  • The IUP lead hovered between three and nine points for the rest of the first quarter that ended with the Crimson Hawks holding a 22-15 advantage.
  • Indiana (Pa.) scored the first four points of the second quarter, bumping its lead into double digits. The Crimson Hawks held their largest lead at 36-24 after Megan Smith converted a lay-up with 57 seconds left.
  • Freshman Lauren Tewes' (Waterford, Mich./Waterford Kettering) three-pointer followed with 44 seconds left, cutting the deficit to 36-27 at the intermission. The triple proved to be more valuable than it looked at the time as it spurred an 18-3 run that continued into the third quarter.
  • Aided by a zone defense and energized offense, Gannon roared out of the halftime locker room with 15 of the first 18 points.
  • Trailing 39-29, junior Brianna Brennan (Woodhaven, Mich./Woodhaven) hit a three-pointer and jumper. Sophomore McKenna Shives (Struthers, Ohio/Struthers) drained a triple, before another Brennan jumper tied the contest at 39. Shives then followed with another three-pointer to give the Lady Knights a 42-39 edge with 6:02 left in the third quarter.
  • Indiana (Pa.) quickly responded with back-to-back three-pointers to forge back ahead 45-42 and eventually went to the fourth quarter with a 51-50 lead.
  • The IUP lead was still one point when Smith hit a three-pointer. After a Brennan free throw, Marina Wareham found nothing but net on a three-pointer from the top of the arc with one second left on the shot clock for a 62-56 lead at the 5:56 mark.
  • Gannon was unable to climb closer than four points the rest of the way, before suffering a 75-70 defeat.
