GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Gannon was off and running early, scoring the first eight points and holding Cheyney scoreless for the first three minutes and 20 seconds. Jackson ignited the strong start with a three-pointer on the first shot of the game 28 seconds after the opening tip. He followed with a lay-up, before Phoenix converted a lay-up and free throw to give the Golden Knights an 8-0 lead.
  • Jackson later drilled three consecutive bombs from behind the arc to push the Gannon advantage to 17-6 almost five minutes into the contest. At that point, he had accounted for 14 of the team's 17 points with a 5-of-6 shooting performance.
  • Leading 23-14, the Golden Knights ripped off an 11-1 run to assume full control. Jackson began the blitz with his fifth triple of the opening 10 minutes and had seven of the 11 points during the run. A lay-up by senior Marcus Jones (Brantford, Ontario/Athlete Institute) gave the visitors a 34-15 edge with 4:22 left in the first half.
  • A mini 6-0 run consisting of a Jackson jumper sandwiched between four points from senior Emmanuel Matey (Lanham, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) late in the half helped Gannon grab its biggest lead of the first stanza at 40-17.
  • Cheyney hit two free throws with 35 ticks left, before heading to the halftime locker room with a 40-19 deficit.
  • The Gannon lead dipped below 20 points only once during the second half after Cheyney made the opening basket.
  • The Golden Knights pushed their lead into the 30's at the 13:28 mark.
  • A three-pointer by junior Gerrell Williams (Lorain, Ohio/Clearview) gave Gannon its biggest lead of the afternoon at 70-30 with 8:37 to play.
  • A lay-up by sophomore Michael Haysbert (Randallstown, Md./Western School of Technology and Environmental Science) with 20 seconds remaining capped the scoring and secured an 81-48 victory.

GAME NOTES
  • Gannon concluded a PSAC crossover road trip that started Saturday at West Chester.
  • This weekend's games represented Gannon's season openers after last weekend's Glenville State Tip-Off Classic was cancelled when Livingstone (N.C.) and Shaw (N.C.) withdrew from the event.
  • Jackson led all scorers on both sides with 26 points, hitting 8-of-11 overall shots and 5-of-7 three-pointers.
  • Phoenix recorded his first career double-double with 19 points and 19 rebounds. His scorecard included a 9-of-10 showing at the free throw line.
  • Junior Damon Miraud (Elizabeth, N.J./Elizabeth) completed Gannon's trio of double-digit scorers with 10 points.
  • Gannon shot 48 percent (24-50) from the field, 43.8 percent (7-16) from three-point range and 66.7 percent (26-39) from the free throw line.
  • Eleven Cheyney players scored, but none were able to reach double figures in scoring. Three Wolves tied for the team lead in points with six.
  • Cheyney shot 34 percent (18-53) from the floor, 16.7 percent (2-12) from behind the arc and 58.8 percent (10-17) from the charity stripe.
  • Gannon out-rebounded Cheyney 43-27.
  • The Golden Knights led from start to finish.

BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
  • Phoenix's 19 rebounds were the most by a Golden Knight since Aurimas Truskauskas had 20 at Edinboro on November 27, 2006.
  • Jackson's five three-pointers were the most by a Gannon player since January 13.
  • Sunday's 33-point win represented Gannon's largest margin of victory since an 85-35 verdict against Lock Haven on February 18, 2012 at the Hammermill Center.
  • It was Gannon's largest road victory since a 76-41 win at Lake Erie on February 16, 2009.
  • The 81 points were the program's most during a regulation game since an 82-51 win at Cheyney on December 20, 2014.
  • Gannon's 21-point halftime lead represented its largest advantage at the break since having a 44-22 lead against Slippery Rock during the PSAC Quarterfinals March 3, 2015 at the Hammermill Center.
  • Cheyney's two three-pointers were the fewest by a Gannon opponent since Kutztown went 2-of-11 during the PSAC Semifinals at the Hammermill Center on March 7, 2015.
