  • Records: Gannon (0-4), West Chester (1-2)
  • Location: West Chester, Pa. – Hollinger Field House
  • The Short Story: The Gannon Lady Knights were on the verge of their first victory of the season but a late flurry by West Chester proved to be too much. The Lady Knights fell, 65-59, in the 2016-17 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) opener.

GAMEDAY MEDIA CENTER HOW IT HAPPENED
  • West Chester scored the first five points of the game but Gannon got its rhythm going and reeled off 10 unanswered points. The run was capped off by a Marissa Siebka (Slippery Rock, Pa./Slippery Rock) 3-pointer and Gannon led 10-5.
  • Kelsey Herbert (Cincinnati, Ohio/Anderson) made two free throws with 13 seconds left in the first quarter, followed by West Chester pushing the ball up the floor and Tori Smick connecting on a jumper as time expired in the quarter. Gannon led 21-20.
  • Maggie Mitchell (Newark, Ohio/Newark) opened up the second quarter with a long-range three that put the Lady Knights up four at 24-20.
  • Gannon had its largest lead in the quarter at the 7:13 mark as Lanise Saunders (Pittsburgh, Pa./Taylor Allderdice) made a jumper and Gannon led 28-23.
  • GU went to the half with a lead for the first time this season, up 35-31.
  • West Chester came out in the third quarter and grabbed the lead with 6:02 remaining in the period. Porscha Speller made a fast-break layup for WCU to go up 39-37.
  • West Chester outscored the Lady Knights 18-6 in the third quarter and led 49-41.
  • Gannon wasn't going away easy, though. Chelsea Rourke (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) cut the deficit to three at 51-48, hitting two free throws with 7:56 remaining in the game.
  • Gannon chipped away and Mitchell tied it up at 59 with 1:34 remaining.
  • West Chester called timeout and drew up a play that worked to perfection. Madison Torresin was wide open under the basket and WCU went up 61-59.
  • The Golden Rams added four more points on free throws and won 65-59.
