Gannon Lady Knights Host PSAC Final Four Volleyball Tournament Beginning Friday

CALIFORNIA (PA.) GAME NOTES
  • California (Pa.) ranks sixth in the NCAA Division II Atlantic region. The top eight teams advance to the NCAA tournament beginning Dec. 1.
  • California (Pa.) advanced to the PSAC Semifinals by downing Shippensburg, 3-1, at home on Tuesday (Nov. 15).
  • The Vulcans' Danielle Hayes leads the conference in kills per set, averaging 3.99 per set.
  • Cal also has the PSAC's top assister, Megan Litoborski, who is averaging 10.37 assists per set. 
     
GANNON GAME NOTES
  • Gannon moved up to second in the Nov. 16 NCAA Division II Atlantic regional rankings. Wheeling Jesuit currently controls the No. 1 seed in the Atlantic region.
  • Gannon advanced to the PSAC semifinals by defeating West Chester, 3-0, on Tuesday (Nov. 15) at the Hammermill Center.
  • The Lady Knights are currently riding an 11-match win streak that dates back to Oct. 15.
  • Gannon leads the PSAC in hitting percentage (.252), assists per set (12.82), kills per set (13.62) and blocks per set (2.10).
  • Gannon has three athletes in the top 10 in the conference in hitting percentage. Beka Smith ranks fourth (.297), Kelsey Ansec is fifth (.294) and Lauren Beck is ninth (.278).
  • Sara Crandall ranks seventh in the conference in digs per set with an average of 4.82 per set.
  • Carolyn Knollman ranks third in the PSAC with 9.96 assists per set. 
     
INDIANA (PA.) GAME NOTES
  • Indiana (Pa.) sits in ninth in the Atlantic regional rankings, one spot out of the top eight that would advance to the NCAA tournament.
  • The No. 7-seed Crimson Hawks pulled off an upset at No.2-seed Edinboro on Tuesday, 3-1, to advance to the PSAC Semifinals.
  • IUP is led by Natalie Cignetti who averages the third-most kills per set in the conference at 3.72 kills per set.
  • Jess Marut has been stellar on the defensive side, averaging 5.45 digs per set. Those 5.45 digs are fourth-most in the conference.

PITT-JOHNSTOWN GAME NOTES
  • Pitt-Johnstown currently ranks fourth in the NCAA Division II Atlantic regional rankings.
  • UPJ made it to the PSAC semifinal round by defeating Seton Hill, 3-1, in the Quarterfinals.
  • The Mountain Cats are winners of five of their last six contests with their only loss coming in a 3-1 upset by Lock Haven on Nov. 8.
  • Pitt-Johnstown leads the conference in service aces per set at 2.05.
  • Kendall Mahoney leads UPJ and ranks second in the conference with 0.47 service aces per set. 
     
UP NEXT
  • The winner of the PSAC Tournament will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
  • The winners of the Mountain East Conference (MEC) and Central Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (CIAA) also receive an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
  • Five at-large teams from the three conferences will also make the NCAA tournament.
  • The NCAA Division II Tournament Selection Show can be seen live Monday, November 21 at www.ncaa.com. The show begins at 7:30 p.m.
