HOW IT HAPPENED
- Gannon opened the game's scoring with a 1-0 lead over California (Pa.) in the bottom of the second. Senior Meghan Cunha (Geneva, Ohio / Edgewood) led the inning off with a single up the middle. A walk from junior Rachel deGuia (Canal Fulton, Ohio / Northwest) and an intentional walk to senior Jess Rectenwald (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Hills) loaded the bases for the Lady Knights. With two outs on the board, freshman Jackie Martinez (Phoenix, Ariz. / Xavier College Prep) moved the bases around with another walk to give GU the 1-0 lead.
- Holding the one-run advantage, the Lady Knights pushed their lead to 4-0 with a trio of runs in the bottom of the fifth.
